Nearly 30 years after ‘Friends‘ aired one of its most iconic and controversial moments, the “we were on a break” debate still refuses to die.
Now, Lisa Kudrow has stepped back into the conversation and revealed that her opinion has changed over time. She admitted that she’s “switched” sides now and her updated take is already stirring up fresh reactions among fans.

While promoting the return of ‘The Comeback‘, Kudrow replied to Entertainment Tonight‘s question of whose side she’s on, Ross or Rachel, regarding the ‘We were on a break‘ debate.

She made it clear that her perspective has evolved over time. “Rachel now. I’ve switched! Ross was ridiculous. What a baby! You can’t plan a future with that guy,” she said.
This feels even more notable now because Kudrow has shared thoughts on this debate before as well. However, revisiting ‘Friends‘ years later seems to have changed how she sees the situation.
A ‘Friends’ Rewatch Changed Everything For Kudrow

Kudrow recently shared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that she has been rewatching the show. For a long time, she avoided it because she didn’t like watching herself on screen.

That changed after the death of her co-star Matthew Perry in 2023. She said she started watching ‘Friends‘ again for him, and it helped her see the show differently.
Like others, Kudrow didn’t get caught up in defining whether Ross and Rachel were officially “on a break.” Instead, she looked at what Ross actually did.
He slept with another woman less than a day after his fight with Rachel. That has always been a big reason why fans still argue about this storyline. And, no matter how much we debate it, Ross was wrong.
Many fans have felt the same way for years. Ross’s famous line, “we were on a break”, has often sounded more like an excuse.
