Nikki Glaser almost went there at the Golden Globes, and the joke she held back might have been the most viral moment of the night. She has now shared that she had a pretty brutal line written about Sydney Sweeney, tied directly to the tough year the actress had in Hollywood.
The joke was ready, but the only reason it didn’t happen was that Sydney wasn’t present. Now, during a recent appearance, she has opened up about what the joke really was.
Nikki Glaser Shares The Deleted Joke About Sydney Sweeney

During a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Nikki Glaser finally revealed the joke she removed at the last minute. She explained that her monologue touched on how strange things feel in Hollywood right now, especially as movie theaters struggle to pull in audiences.

“Tonight is a night of celebration. But we can’t ignore that it’s a weird time in Hollywood,” Glaser said while recalling the unused material. She then shared the exact punchline she planned to use: “People just aren’t going to the theater to see things. If you don’t believe me, there was a movie this year where Sydney Sweeney played a lesbian who just bounced around in tiny shorts for two hours. And it made $14.”
The joke targeted the Christy Martin biopic that required Sweeney to undergo a major physical transformation. The film drew attention before its release but failed to perform at the box office. Glaser confirmed that Sweeney’s absence was the only reason the joke stayed off the stage.
Why Nikki Glaser Chose Not To Say It Live

Glaser made it clear she didn’t remove the joke because she felt bad about writing it. She explained that she prefers roasting people who are actually in the room. Saying it without Sweeney present felt unfair and one-sided, as Sweeney had already dealt with plenty of criticism during 2025.

Adding another public jab during a major awards show felt unnecessary unless the actress could hear it directly. That led her to cut the line completely instead of rewriting it. Even though there were many more jokes aimed at other celebrities on her list, Sydney Sweeney’s line was one of the harshest ones.
