As AI seems to take over each domain, the entertainment industry might also suffer as newer models seem to disrupt reality. While users are shocked seeing realistic AI generations, ‘Shang-Chi‘ actor Simu Liu feels unimpressed with a recent viral action sequence involving Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise made with the help of AI.
Simu Liu has sparked fresh debate in Hollywood after bluntly tearing apart a viral AI video showing Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt fighting on a rooftop. While many viewers called the clip disturbingly realistic, the Marvel star saw something else entirely.
Simu Liu’s Take On AI Brad Pitt Vs Tom Cruise Action Sequence

The online frenzy began when filmmaker Ruairi Robinson shared a hyper-realistic AI-generated video. The video showed Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt locked in a brutal rooftop brawl. The footage spread quickly, with some fans praising its detail and industry voices warning that AI filmmaking might already be here.

‘Deadpool‘ writer Rhett Reese reacted that moments like this could mean human-led cinema was nearing a turning point. But Simu Liu wasn’t impressed for even a second, and he didn’t hold back. Posting on social media, the Shang-Chi actor wrote, “LOL anyone who has ever watched a martial arts movie knows this is absolutely dog*.” Instead of discussing ethics or job security, he attacked the fundamentals: the combat itself looked fake.
Liu thought the awkward reactions revealed a complete misunderstanding of how real bodies move in a fight. From his Marvel debut experience, he argued that anyone familiar with fight choreography could immediately see the mistakes.
The Real Reason The MCU Actor Thinks AI Fails Here

Liu’s criticism went beyond just one viral clip. He focused on the absence of physical knowledge behind the animation: timing, balance, impact, and recovery. In his view, the computer mimicked punches but didn’t understand them. He has long warned about generative technology creeping into performance spaces, especially stunt work and background acting.

For him, the danger isn’t only replacement; it’s mediocrity being mistaken for mastery. The actor previously explained that art works because humans create it, not because it merely looks convincing. Subtle human rhythms, reflexes, and hesitation still can’t be replicated through prompts, and this fight scene proved that gap clearly.
Reacting to the insane AI-generated video, the ‘Deadpool & Wolverine‘ screenwriter stated, “I hate to say it. It’s likely over for us“. Although many remain unconvinced by the clip’s realism, users noted that this might not be the end. AI is still far from replacing screenwriters, action choreographers, and other filmmaking geniuses.
