Taylor Swift shared some life hacks with her fellow graduates while receiving her degree from the New York University. Her valuable words included feelings of rejection, dating and more. She revealed what she exactly thinks of herself and she shared some of her very personal experiences. Taylor also weighed in on the importance of failure and rejection in life.

“The times I was told, ‘No,’ or wasn’t included, wasn’t chosen, didn’t win, didn’t make the cut…looking back, it really feels like those moments were as important, if not more crucial, than the moments I was told ‘yes’. Having the world treat my love life like a spectator sport in which I lose every single game was not a great way to date in my teens and twenties,” she said. “But it taught me to protect my private life fiercely.” (The singer has dated Joe Alwyn since 2017.) She continued, “Being publicly humiliated over and over again at a young age was excruciatingly painful but it forced me to devalue the ridiculous notion of minute by minute, ever-fluctuating social relevance and likability,” she said.

Taylor said that those moments acted as catalysts, they changed both her trajectory and perspective on life, including her heavily discussed romantic history.

Swift also talked about the things she had to go through while building up her career. She said in a humorous tone, “Getting canceled on the internet and nearly losing my career gave me an excellent knowledge of all the types of wine.”

Let’s end with a note by the singer for the students who had to go through the stresses of college amid the global pandemic. “I imagine the idea of a normal college experience was all you wanted, too. And as I would like to say to you, you should be very proud of what you’ve done with it,” she said.
