Nearly two decades after ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ became a pop culture staple, the much-anticipated sequel is finally underway. Unsurprisingly, fans are speculating about which stars from the original will return. While Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are officially reprising their roles, one performer has been left wondering why her phone never rang.
Actress Caitriona Balfe recently looked back on her blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance in the first film and jokingly questioned why she hasn’t been asked back for round two. At the same time, filming in New York City has already produced memorable behind-the-scenes moments.
“I Was Officially A Clacker”: Caitriona Balfe Speaks On Her Forgotten Cameo In ‘The Devil Wears Prada’

Caitriona Balfe may not be the first name that comes to mind when people think of ‘The Devil Wears Prada’. However, she was there, if only for a moment. In an interview with SR, Balfe recalled how her small role in the 2006 dramedy helped launch her acting career. “Oh my God, I know. Why am I not in the sequel?!” Balfe joked. “That whole high heel thing I was in. I did, I think, two days on that film. It helped me get my SAG card, that’s one thing I will say.”

She was a “clacker,” one of the impeccably dressed assistants working at the fictional Runway magazine, inspired by Vogue. Balfe explained that she spent most of her time waiting in a cramped trailer. And when it came time to film, her big moment was striding across the building’s entrance as Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) walked inside. “I saw Meryl Streep. My heel walked in front of the camera, and I think I was officially down as a clacker. But that’s it.”
She laughs now about how little screen time she actually got. However, she credits that short stint with helping her secure her SAG membership, a crucial milestone for any actor breaking into Hollywood. Though Balfe confirmed years ago that she technically appears in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, as for the sequel, Balfe hasn’t been announced as part of the returning cast, surprisingly.
Anne Hathaway Falls On ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Set

While Caitríona Balfe reflects on her fleeting past with the franchise, Anne Hathaway is very much at the center of its future. Recently, fans got an unexpected glimpse of Hathaway on set in New York, and it wasn’t just because of her stylish wardrobe. During filming, the actress took a tumble down a short stoop after the heel of her shoe snapped.

Dressed for the scene in a black pleated skirt, sheer plaid blouse, and studded strappy heels, Hathaway stumbled, landed on her bottom, and momentarily disappeared beneath her hair. However, she handled it with the same charm that made Andy Sachs so beloved. According to onlookers, Hathaway quickly popped back up, bagel still in hand, and reassured everyone with a laugh that she was fine.
She hugged the crew and carried on with the shoot, turning what could have been a stressful situation into a moment of levity. Just as Andy dusted herself off after every challenge Miranda threw her way, Hathaway brushed off her fall with grace. ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ is already shaping up to be a nostalgic yet fresh return to one of cinema’s most stylish universes.
