Ahead of the Oscars, Steven Spielberg sat down with Stephen Colbert, where they discussed Spielberg’a decades-long career and ‘The Fabelmans’.
Stephen Colbert had the opportunity to ask if the filmmaker had a favorite film from his oeuvre. This moment led to Spielberg getting introspective. He turns told the talk-show host of all his movies, ‘E.T,’ seems “pretty perfect” to him. The filmmaker rarely looks back, but ‘E.T.’ has a special place in his heart.

Steven Spielberg Thinks ‘E.T.’ Is ‘Pretty Perfect’
‘The Fabelmans’ filmmaker conversed with Stephen Colbert, discussing everything from aliens to John Ford’s influence on Steven Spielberg. The Colbert Show show asked Spielberg if he liked one of his movies, to which he responded ‘E.T.’ While Spielberg isn’t fond of looking back, he is excited to revisit ‘E.T.‘ with his children.
“Sometimes I see things that I had intended to do that I didn’t do, and sometimes I see things that would have been a better idea that I’m now seeing all these years later, but for the most part E.T. is a pretty perfect movie. It’s one of the few movies I’ve made that I can look back at again and again. There’s about five or six films that I can watch again, but I usually don’t do that.” said the filmmaker.
‘E.T.’ is a 1982 science fiction movie written by Melissa Mathison and directed by Steven Spielberg. It’s a heartwarming story of an alien who forms an emotional connection with Elliot. With authorities after the alien, Elliot, his family, and friends must help the alien find the way back home. It stars Dee Wallace, Henry Thomas, Peter Coyote, Robert MacNaughton, and Drew Barrymore.

Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Fabelmans’ Is Up For Multiple Oscars
With ‘The Fabelmans’, Steven Spielberg is up for seven Oscar nominations, including Best Director and Best Picture. Co-written with Tony Kushner, ‘The Fabelmans’ is based on Steven Spielberg’s childhood. The film stars Gabriel LaBelle as Sammy, who must overcome familial discord and self-doubt to become a great artist. It is dedicated to the memory of his parents, Leah Adler, and Arnold Spielberg. They passed away in 2017 and 2020, respectively.
‘The Fabelmans’ also stars Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, and Judd Hirsch in supporting roles. Steven Spielberg was recently awarded Lifetime Achievement Ward at International Berlin Film Festival. He announced that he has no idea of what film he’s be directing next, but will be involved in making an HBO series of Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Napolean‘ screenplay.
