Cillian Murphy and Christopher Nolan talked to EW about their professional history, which led them to work on ‘Oppenheimer.‘ Murphy, who’s been a Nolan fan since seeing ‘Memento,’ auditioned for the role of Batman. The part went to Christian Bale, but the 46-year-old actor was cast as Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow.

Murphy was asked to reprise Scarecrow in ‘Dark Knight Rises,’ for which he declined to read the script. So I just came in for that one day, did that little bit on that amazing set, and then waited to see the movie. And it was worth it.”
