Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s marriage lasted for a short time and eventually devolved into what seems to have been a toxic marriage. Heard and Depp split in 2016. They battled in court over an op-ed written by the actress in 2018 in which she claimed to have been a survivor of domestic violence.
After several years, the defamation case brought by actor Johnny Depp against his ex-wife Amber Heard came to an end on Wednesday. A seven-person jury ruled the case in favor of Depp. Depp, who was suing his ex-wife for $50m, won all three of his claims and has been awarded $10 million in damages whereas Heard won only one of her three claims and will receive $2 million.

Johnny Depp sued Amber Heard for $50 million for implying he abused her in a 2018 op-ed. He claimed that it impacted his ability to work even when his name was not taken directly. Heard pursued a $100 million counterclaim. The jury found that Heard demafed Depp in all three claims and awarded him $10 million. Depp’s lawyer asked jurors to “give him his life back” after it was “ruined” by Heard’s domestic abuse allegations.
Amber Heard said she was “heartbroken“ and added, “I believe Johnny’s attorneys succeeded in getting the jury to overlook the key issue of Freedom of Speech and ignore evidence that was so conclusive that we won in the UK.”
Johnny Depp also took to Instagram releasing a statement that read “Six years ago, my life, the life of my children, the lives of those closest to me, and also, the lives of the people who for many, many years have supported and believed in me were forever changed. All in the blink of an eye.”
