‘The Office‘ is still the one of the most beloved and entertaining sitcoms in the history of entertainment. It’s a classic that never gets old, and perhaps can never be imitated with perfection. And yet, Zac Efron thinks otherwise.
While promoting his new movie ‘A Family Affair‘, Zac Efron and Zoey King compared their movie to ‘The Office’ and contended that it’s their version of it with improved fun and playful scenes. Here’s what the duo said.
“It’s Like Our Version Of The Office Or Something”: Zac Efron On His New Movie Family Affair
Zac Efron and Joey King discussed the weird celebrity culture while talking with Entertainment Weekly about their upcoming movie ‘A Family Affair”, which revolves around the same concept’. Though the name suggests a narrative around family drama, the film also has an office setting between Efron, who plays the role of movie star Chris Cole, and King, who plays his assistant.
Like a typical boss, Efron lays out his frustration on King’s character. Talking about the same, Efron said, “The funniest, fun stuff to pull from was the inside baseball knowledge of just being on set, like what the real stuff is like. So the scenes where we’re making the movie is really fun because you can infuse some real-life stuff into that.”
Efron then compared the movie to ‘The Office’ as he quipped, “It’s like our version of The Office or something, a little bit.”

“They Were Just So Wonderful About Letting Us Improv”: Efron Talked About the Shooting
Zack Efron and Zoey King revealed that they did a lot of scene improvements while shooting the movie to bring their flavor to it. “We had an amazing writer, Carrie [Solomon], who wrote the most hilarious script, and Richard [Lagravenese], our director, was so collaborative,” King said.
“In terms of infusing ourselves [into our characters], they were just so wonderful about letting us improv and really bringing our own flavor to some scenes. We would follow her script for like several takes and then we would also do some fun improv stuff with suggestions that she’d given us on the side, so that was really fun. It constantly felt like we were playing,” she added.
They further talked about how Efron loved doing and trying new things as he had the safety of both writer and director. “They would always have new stuff for us to try if we ran out of ammo or ideas,” Efron said. “It was just really safe and important to be in that collaborative kind of environment when you’re doing something like this,” he added.
A ‘Family Affairs’ hits the theatres on 28 June.
