Zendaya and Tom Holland have always had that ‘effortless chemistry’ vibe. But now, as rumors are swirling about a possible secret wedding.
‘The Drama‘ actress has now opened up about the moment she knew Tom was “her person,” and it all came down to how comfortable she feels around him.
Zendaya Shares Why It All Clicked With Tom Holland
Speaking on The New York Times’ Modern Love podcast, Zendaya recalled, “I think sometimes, at least in my personal experience, I found that sometimes people can get nervous around people”. The Euphoria star added, “But there’s a certain feeling that I was able to experience when I knew that this is my person, because I didn’t.”

She went on to explain how that feeling was completely different from the usual nervous excitement people associate with love. “I don’t feel nervous, I feel really peaceful, and I feel really calm. And feel like, ‘Oh, I actually feel more nervous when I’m away from you than when I’m with you.’ And that’s when I was like, ‘Ah, that’s a good sign, that’s me listening to intuition.’”
Zendaya revealed that this sense of ease actually began when she first met Tom during the audition for ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming‘ in 2017. Even though she felt the pressure of a major opportunity, Tom’s presence immediately helped ground her.
“We first met in an audition, so I was pretty nervous anyway, but he did make me feel calm,” Zendaya explained, “just by being a nice person, you know, by making me feel comfortable. Having to do a chemistry read for a big movie like that—it’s like, you really want the job and all these kinds of things. And yeah, he was really lovely then.”
That clearly became the foundation of a relationship that would grow both on- and off-screen.
The Couple Prioritizes Privacy Over Everything
Talking more about their bond, Zendaya made it clear that she prefers to keep her current relationship details out of the spotlight. “I just feel like for me there is this level of a parasocial investment in my personal relationship,” she said.

She acknowledged that both she and Tom are public figures who grew up in front of audiences and portrayed romantic partners on screen, so she understands why people feel invested.
Even with that understanding, Zendaya emphasized the importance of maintaining personal boundaries. She described herself as “a very private person,” adding, “I try my best to be able to have things for myself and for him as well.”
She clarified that it is a conscious choice to protect what they share. Zendaya explained that keeping certain aspects of their relationship private helps them “preserve things for ourselves so that we can maintain that joy just within ourselves and our loved ones and our family.”
Rumors may come and go, but Zendaya and Tom seem to have found peace in each other.
