Danhausen’s run in WWE has drawn praise from fans, with many enjoying his involvement on weekly programming alongside several top superstars in recent weeks. However, his rise to prominence was something Conan O’Brien seemingly saw coming years in advance.
Speaking on the latest episode of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, O’Brien reflected on his first encounter with the former AEW wrestler nearly five years ago, sharing details of their meeting and noting that he always believed Danhausen had the potential to become a major star.
Conan O’Brien Was Impressed With Danhausen’s Work Ethic

Conan O’Brien recalled meeting Danhausen nearly five years ago during the very first fan episode of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, sharing how the wrestler introduced his unique persona.
Conan mentioned that Danhausen explained the inspiration behind his character during their initial interaction. “…he explained to me when we did this very first fan episode that he had loosely based his character, his wrestling character, on me if I was an interdimensional demon, which seems redundant to me”.
He went on to highlight the depth of their conversation, noting that the two bonded over comedy, performance, and a shared passion for entertaining audiences. Conan also revealed how impressed he was by Danhausen’s dedication to his craft, particularly his willingness to go the extra mile early in his career.
“Danhausen told me that he had been grinding away for the past eight years, driving 12 hours every weekend, just be able to get up in front of people and wrestle. And this is a guy who just applied an incredible work ethic to his passion, and I was so impressed with this fellow,” said Conan.
