Why Paul Heyman Thinks He Outclasses Bobby Heenan

Widely regarded as one of the sharpest minds in professional wrestling history, Paul Heyman has continued to operate at the top of his game in recent years, earning praise for his work as a manager in WWE. His rise began during his time in ECW, and since then, ‘The Wiseman’ has remained a central figure in some of the company’s most high-profile storylines.

In a recent conversation with Video Games Chronicle, Heyman spoke while promoting WWE 2K26 and reflected on some of the greatest managers in wrestling history. During the discussion, he singled out one legendary figure, offering strong and candid views on the all-time great.

Remaining firmly in character, Paul Heyman delivered a bold take while comparing his legacy to that of the late Bobby Heenan. Heyman pointed out that Heenan is no longer alive before drawing a stark comparison between the number of champions each has managed over the course of their careers.

Heyman said, “He’s dead. What’s he gonna do? Come back and haunt you because you told the truth that he’s no longer the greatest. How many champions has Bobby Heenan managed? You can count them on one hand. Can’t count mine on one. You can barely count them on two”.

Heyman further claimed that the only individual to have headlined more WrestleMania main events than him is Roman Reigns, with 11, reinforcing his belief in his unmatched resume. He continued his emphatic stance by declaring, “Where in the world can you say that Bobby Heenan’s even in my league anymore?”

Paul Heyman doubled down on his stance, continuing to make a strong case for his legacy while remaining firmly in character. He said, “I managed more champions for a longer period of time and a longer period of time within their title reigns than anybody else in history. No one even comes close.”

As expected, the comments have sparked a mixed reaction among fans on social media. While some have praised Heyman for staying true to kayfabe, others have criticized the remarks, arguing that they come across as disrespectful toward the late Heenan.

The massive rise of ECW during the Monday Night Wars was magnificent, and Paul Heyman was the driving force throughout it. However, the WWE version of ECW relaunched in the mid-,2000s never saw the popularity of its original run.

While talking about the ECW arenas in WWE 2K26, Heyman shared his inner thoughts about the WWE version of the ECW, calling it abhorrent and miserable.

He stated, “I don’t think anybody that chants ECW in 2026 ever is thinking about the WWEized version of 2006, which was one absolutely abhorrent, miserable experience for everybody involved.”
