The USA Team Gymnastics made a stunning comeback in the Paris Olympics, winning the gold medal in the Women’s Gymnastics Team All-around on Tuesday, July 30. This dynamic squad, which included Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera, wowed viewers with their remarkable performances.
Simone Biles, often hailed as the GOAT of gymnastics, led the charge, overcoming a calf injury to secure the win. This triumph cemented her place in history as the most decorated gymnast, with 8 Olympic medals.. But the celebration didn’t just end with their gold medal; the team had a playful surprise up their sleeves for their fans and the media.
Simone Biles Unveiling The Playful New Nickname
In a post-victory press conference, the team was asked if they had a nickname. Aly Raisman, a two-time Olympic champion, posed the question. At first, there was silence. Then, the other team members chanted to Biles, “Don’t say it,” to which she responded, “I’m not going to say it.” Historically, Olympic teams have had names like the Fierce Five and the Final Five, but Team USA gymnastics’ new moniker certainly stood out.
Biles eventually shared the acronym “F.A.A.F.O.,” which stands for “F**k around and find out.” She didn’t delve into the brainstorming behind this nickname, but it definitely captured the team’s bold and fearless spirit.

From ‘Fearless Five’ To ‘Golden Girls’
Just last month, in a conversation with Today, the squad mentioned they hadn’t settled on a nickname. They turned down suggestions like Fearless Five or Phenomenal Five. Biles remarked, “I feel like it has to be a little bit more younger, hip. Ask the TikTokers. They’ll think of something.” Clearly, the team wanted a name that resonated with their modern, edgy vibe.
However, in a recent post on X, Biles offered some clarification, writing, “okay, on the real though, the official team name is ✨golden girls✨ (because oldest olympic team),” referring to their more official nickname. This name fittingly highlights their experience and achievement, especially since Biles herself secured the victory with a remarkable score of 14.66 despite her injury.
While the team basked in their glory, Biles faced some unnecessary criticism about her hair. Before her competition on Tuesday, she took to social media, asking trolls to stop commenting on her hair.
She posted a video story on Instagram of herself using a battery fan on a bus ride. It was captioned, “Don’t come for me about my hair. IT WAS DONE but the bus has NO AC & it’s like 9,0000 degrees on a 45-minute bus ride.” She further added in her story, “Gonna hold your hand when I say this💋, next time you wanna comment on a black girl’s hair. JUST DON’T.”
