Elon Musk provided hope for the better functioning of Twitter when he became the new CEO of the platform. The billionaire endorsed the idea that he wants to make the microblogging website a “digital town square.” He also promoted free speech on Twitter, but the reality is more grim. Since he bought Twitter during the historic $44 billion deal in October 2022, there has been a lot of chaos that ensued while revamping the platform.
When Elon Musk took over Twitter, many advertisers started pulling out their advertisements, which diminished Twitter’s finances. Due to dwindling revenue, Musk started laying off people and launched many new features and policies to increase revenue. During the layoffs, he fired more than half of the workforce, leaving only thousands to run the massive platform. Along with layoffs, many top-tier executives also submitted their resignations. Ella Irwin, the head of trust and safety on Twitter, has resigned from the company.
Two Trust And Safety Officers Have Resigned Since Elon Musk Took Over Twitter
When Elon Musk bought Twitter, he announced that he would employ the already-existing content moderation council. The content moderation council had the job of restoring the banned accounts and verifying the content that goes on the platform by filtering out the harmful ones.
When the Musk reign started, Yoel Roth became the head of the trust and safety council (Musk renamed the 2016-formed content moderation council). However, in November 2022, the biggest Musk ally resigned from the position.
After Yoel Roth resigned, Ella Irwin was appointed as the new head of the Trust and Safety Council at Twitter. She has served in the position of Vice President of the Council since June 2022. Ella looked after content moderation after Roth’s resignation.
Irwin brought 20+ years of experience in building trusted products and services. However, Reuters reported that she has also resigned from the position. As the outlet reported, the ex-officers decision comes on the heels of the company’s inability to bring advertisers on board. This has put the moderation of content in utter jeopardy as the platform has been marred with harmful content.

The Billionaire Appointed Linda Yaccarino As The New CEO Of Twitter
Elon Musk did his best to execute his vision of revamping the platform, but he was met with failure. He failed to bring advertisers to the platform, as they have become wary of promoting their products alongside some problematic content. The entrepreneur found it difficult to juggle various ventures at the same time. So he appointed Linda Yaccarino, a former NBCUniversal advertising executive, as the CEO of Twitter.
Linda Yaccarino expressed her vision to take the reins from Elon Musk for the betterment of Twitter. She wrote, “I’ve long been inspired by [Musk’s] vision to create a brighter future. I’m excited to help bring this vision to Twitter and transform this business together!”
She continued, “I see I have some new followers… I’m not as prolific as @elonmusk (yet!), but I’m just as committed to the future of this platform. Your feedback is vital to that future. I’m here for all of it. Let’s keep the conversation going and build Twitter 2.0 together!”
