At this point, Twitter may soar high or come crashing down real quick due to the current leadership of Elon Musk. The transition that the platform is witnessing right now is unprecedented. There have been loads of changes in the policies, interfaces, and structure of the micro-blogging site. The new CEO, after the acquisition of Twitter, is bringing new policies to revamp it into his vision of ‘Twitter 2.0’. However, the success ratio of these policies is not promising.
When he acquired Twitter for the historic price of $44 billion, he appointed himself as the new CEO firing the previous top-tier executives. In the filings, he also declared himself as the sole Director at Twitter. He has been guiding the new changes at the company and the application. Musk introduced a new subscription plan to boost the plummeting revenue. He managed to bring many interface changes. However, Twitter is not the only venture that he is handling. He has four other companies to look after. So, a former engineer at SpaceX, Steve Davis may be a strong candidate for his designation at Twitter in the coming days.

Who Is Steve Davis, The New Candidate Who May Takeover Twitter?
In February 2023, during the World Government Summit in Dubai, Elon Musk announced that he will appoint a new CEO at Twitter. During the conference, he said that he is prioritizing stabilizing the platform.
Elon Musk said, “I’m guessing probably towards the end of this year should be good timing to find someone else to run the company because I think it should be in a stable position around the end of this year”.
He has been hinting at appointing a new leader at Twitter. Recently, Elon conducted the fourth round of mass layoffs. During the layoffs, which were supposed to be stopped three months back, many key employees like Haraldur Thorleiffson, Martijn de Kuijper, and others were sacked along with 200 more employees.
The managers at Twitter got calls from Steve Davis, a trusted associate with Elon Musk since the SpaceX days.
As per the report from The Platformer, Davis started asking questions to employees. The questions included, “Who on your team is exceptional? Who would you bet your job on?”. The managers were speculating about the reasons. The reason was the layoffs that happened which reduced the headcount at Twitter further. It is hinted that Steve Davis may have executed this layoff.
Steve Davis has largely remained out of the picture, but he is an exceptional engineer. He has been working with Elon Musk as early as 2003. In 2016, when Elon founded The Boring Company, a visionary venture to make urban transit efficient by building tunnels, he appointed Steve as the CEO of the company. Earlier, he used to own Thomas Foolery, “the wackiest bar in Washington”.
Since Elon Musk has taken over Twitter, Steve has been a great help to the billionaire with cost-cutting. Like other loyal employees, Davis slept in the Twitter office to work on cost-cutting. As per the Information, Davis has helped to cut the cost by nearly $1 billion which was $500 million more than the required cost cut.

The New CEO Fired Esther Crawford, The Director Of Product Management
The layoff saga continues on Twitter. Since November 2022, Elon Musk has been sacking employees, reducing the headcount at Twitter by more than half. He promised to stop the layoffs after the two rounds, but he has not stopped yet. When Musk joined as the new CEO of Twitter, many advertisers started to pull out the advertising. This led to a large reduction in the revenue reservoir. Due to this, he started sacking employees.
In some cases, he sacked employees for the most obscure reasons. He fired two engineers when they criticized his policies on Twitter. Recently, he fired an engineer when he failed to explain the reduction in his Twitter impressions. Now, in the fourth round of layoffs, Musk fired more than 200 employees.
The worst take you could have from watching me go all-in on Twitter 2.0 is that my optimism or hard work was a mistake. Those who jeer & mock are necessarily on the sidelines and not in the arena. I’m deeply proud of the team for building through so much noise & chaos. 💙

Along with them, he fired the Director at Twitter Blue, Esther Crawford. She joined Twitter in 2020. Since then, she has been leading many product development projects like Direct Messages, Creators, Longform Notes, etc., After the layoff, she tweeted, “The worst take you could have from watching me go all-in on Twitter 2.0 is that my optimism or hard work was a mistake”.
