The royal family has the eyes of the world on it at all times and for all sorts of reasons – be it their relationships or their royal festivities. Being the monarch of the British, King Charles has more responsibilities than one might imagine. He carries the onus of doing everything big and small the right way, especially when it comes to royal traditions.
The royal family has a grand Christmas celebration every year, along with an address from the monarch. This year will mark the second Christmas address by King Charles, who delivered his inaugural message last year after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth. But there is an unexpected twist that has left people wondering if King Charles is defying the royal traditions.

What Is King Charles Doing Differently This Year?
Christmas Eve in the Royal Family is marked with a yearly broadcast, which airs on Christmas Day in England. It has been an age-old royal tradition for both the reigning monarch and families across the country since the 1930s.
As Britain gears up for the broadcast on Monday, the tradition will see a new twist. King Charles is adding an eco-friendly touch to his annual Christmas message this year. As confirmed by the royal sources, the king will be standing beside a living tree while delivering his address — a first for the royal tradition.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the change and revealed that the tree is adorned with “natural and sustainable decorations“. Detailing the decorations, they said it would include hand-turned wood, pinecones, brown glass, dried oranges, and paper.
The broadcast will be produced by ITN and recorded in the Centre Room at Buckingham Palace.
To add to the eco-friendly efforts, Buckingham Palace will also get the tree replanted after the broadcast. This year’s Christmas broadcast will also offer the audience a glimpse of a historic potpourri bowl with a gilt metal cover, believed to have been acquired by George IV.

King Charles Has Been Vocal About Environment Issues
The environment-conscious move comes as King Charles has been actively raising concerns about environmental issues. Recently at the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai, he brought up the urgency of climate action. “In 2050, our grandchildren won’t be asking what we said, they will be living with the consequences of what we did or didn’t do,” he said.
As the world and the Royal Family gear up for Christmas Eve, King Charles and Queen Camilla were spotted in Sandringham, Norfolk, attending a morning service at St. Mary Magdalene Church. The King was seen wearing a tan overcoat and gray trousers, while Camilla donned a black hat and a long coat.
The royal family is scheduled to gather at Sandringham House for the weekend. They will participate in the traditional Christmas Day walk to and from the church for annual holiday services there.
