The Royal Family is seemingly set to enter some more drama with the release of Robert Hardman’s ‘The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy’. Prince Harry‘s already severed ties with his father King Charles, and brother Prince Williams make headlines quite frequently.
Harry’s memoir ‘Spare‘ released last year, and his statements on the Netflix miniseries ‘Harry & Meghan‘ have dealt a severe blow to his relationship with Prince William. According to royal author Robert Hardman, Harry has often criticized William’s choice to marry Kate Middleton.
Prince Harry’s Behavior Towards His Brother Is Hurtful
Robert Hardman’s book ‘The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy’ chiefly delves into the life of King Charles as a monarch. But it also naturally covers the intricacies of relationships among the royal family members, especially with Harry and Meghan. While speaking about Prince Harry, Hardman contends that he has often voiced how his brother married Kate Middleton out of compulsion, and not love.
“Harry talks about marrying someone for love, not because it’s the sort of person you ought to,” Hardman says in his book. “I think that’s a lot more wounding. I mean that’s effectively dissing your brother and his choice of wife in a very public way,” he adds.
Harry has spoken a certain way about marriage on the Netflix show ‘Harry and Meghan‘. “For so many people in the family, especially obviously the men, there can be a temptation or urge to marry someone who fits in the mold, as opposed to somebody who you are perhaps destined to be with.”
“The difference between making decisions with your head, or your heart. And my mum [Diana] made most of her decisions, if not all of them, from her heart. And I am my mother’s son,” Harry adds.
The relationship between Prince Harry and Prince William was already strained, and got stretched further after the release of Harry’s memoir, ‘Spare’. In the book, Harry has laid out an intimate account of their childhood and the complexities of the bond he shared with his brother as well as his mother, Princess Diana.

The Importance Of Privacy In Royal Family And How ‘Spare’ Challenged It
Speaking about the importance of privacy both princes hold, Hardman writes that Harry’s decision to share personal stories in the public domain has heightened tensions. “Both these brothers, they’ve guarded their privacy. It’s been really important to them,” Hardman says.
“And William is a really private person. He doesn’t do nearly as many interviews as his father did at this age and family life is absolutely off-limits for media. Privacy is really important and Harry’s just gone and chucked all these stories about their childhood into the public domain,” Hardman adds.
In ‘Spare‘, Harry has also narrated some instances of discord, including an alleged physical fight between the brothers at Eton College. The disagreement revolved around Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle.
Describing the incident, Harry writes in ‘Spare‘, “It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor,” Harry writes of William. “I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out,” he adds.
The book also touches on the problematic relations between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, citing incidents like a disagreement over Princess Charlotte’s dress for Markle’s wedding.
