Who’s Vlad The Impaler, The Character Who Inspired The Character Of Dracula?
Bram Stocker’s ‘Dracula’ draws inspiration from Vlad, the bloodthirsty ruler of the kingdom of Romania. Vlad III, commonly known as Vlad The Impaler, ruled the kingdom of Wallachia thrice between 1448 and his death in 1476/77. Vlad the Impaler was the second son of Vlad Dracul, who became the ruler of Wallachia in 1436.
His reign of terror soon began when he was released from captivity. Ruthless in his leadership at the throne and on the battlefield, he impaled his enemies on stakes in the ground, earning him the name Vlad the Impaler. It’s believed that he was responsible for killing about 80,000 people. In ‘Dracula Untold,’ Luke Evans plays Vlad, a Transylvanian prince who transforms into a vampire to protect his family and the kingdom from Turkish forces.
