The idea of returning to ‘Schitt’s Creek‘ has stayed alive for years, especially as talks of a follow-up gained traction earlier this year. Fans believed the beloved story could continue in some form, even after the series wrapped in 2020.
That possibility has now been completely shut down. Dan Levy has made it clear that a return is impossible, and he has pointed to one reason that outweighs everything else.
Why A ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Reboot Won’t Work?

In an interview with CBS Sunday, ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Dan Levy has ruled out any sequel or reunion for Schitt’s Creek, and his reasoning comes down to Catherine O’Hara. Earlier this year, the legendary actress passed away at 71, and that loss changed everything for the series’ future.

Levy visited several beloved places from the show, including Rose Apothecary. While reflecting on the time spent on the show, he explained it was “tough being back.” And the reason was his TV mother, Catherine O’Hara’s death earlier this year.
When asked about the possibility of the show’s return, Levy confirmed that there are no chances for that to ever happen. “No, not now, no. You can’t,” Levy said. “Yeah, I was thinking about it [before O’Hara died].”
It is clear the show won’t be the same without Catherine O’Hara playing Moira. Additionally, the ensemble cast’s personal relationship with her also makes it very hard for them to return.
“I didn’t think that I’d have quite an emotional reaction,” Levy added. “Just a lot of memories, a lot of memories with Catherine. It’s what you have to hold on to, the memories of it all.”
Catherine O’Hara’s Legacy Leaves No Room For A Sequel

While reminiscing, Levy added that Catherine O’Hara was just brilliant. Along with being a great friend, Catherine O’Hara had a unique sense of humor that couldn’t be replaced. “Listen, for someone who was not on the internet, she knew how to meme,” Levy joked.

O’Hara is known as one of the most acclaimed actors in Hollywood, with an iconic career in movies like ‘Home Alone‘, ‘Beetlejuice‘, and ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas‘, and several accolades.
The actress was hospitalized in January after experiencing difficulty breathing. She was pronounced dead later that same day, and it was revealed that the cause was connected to pulmonary embolism, related to rectal cancer.
