While Paris has always been the city of dreams for romantics worldwide, ‘Emily in Paris‘ has elevated the place to a whole new level. It’s not just the show’s ardent fans swooning over the show, French President Emmanuel Macron has also quite openly declared his “passion” for the Netflix hit.
In a recent Variety interview, Macron talked more about the show than about himself or his politics. However, he noted how Emily’s new Roman adventures cropped up during the latter part of Season 4 and much-touted Season 5 has become a problem for him. The President made it amply clear that he plans on keeping her in Paris. As if that wasn’t enough, the Roman authority also jumped in on the claim.
Emily’s Shift From Paris To Rome Flares Up Political Banter
Emmanuel Macron is seemingly hell-bent on bringing Emily right back to her so-called home in Paris. “Emily in Paris in Rome makes no sense,” he said during the Variety interview, insisting on keeping her in the City of Light.

Things took an even more unexpected turn when Rome’s Mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, had something to say on the matter. Taking his turn online, Gualtieri cheekily replied, “Don’t worry: Emily is doing very well in Rome. And you can’t control your heart: let’s let her choose.”
Caro @EmmanuelMacron stai tranquillo: Emily a Roma sta benissimo. E poi al cuor non si comanda: facciamo scegliere lei 😉https://t.co/n0EgAfMhrl

Unsatisfied with that barb alone, Gualtieri went further still in an interview for The Hollywood Reporter Roma, pushing Macron on priorities. “Doesn’t President Macron have more important things to worry about?” Gualtieri goaded, referencing Ukraine and climate change, among other global issues. He added, “I hope Macron was joking because Netflix doesn’t take orders from heads of state.”
Rome Mayor Asks President Emmanuel Macron To “Relax”
In one sense, French President Emmanuel Macron is fighting to get Emily back, and Gualtieri is mighty pleased to keep that marketing whiz in the Eternal City. “We see Emily’s move to Rome as a sign of our city’s growing importance,” the mayor declared. “Mr. Macron should just relax.”

Macron’s wife, Brigitte, has already cornered a cameo appearance in Season 4 and the president takes so much pride in that. Although he hasn’t been approached for a guest spot, Macron cheekily maintained, “I’m less attractive than Brigitte!”
While we don’t have any updates on whether Italy is debuting some cameos in Season 5, the drama off-screen is already stealing the spotlight!
