The fandom of ‘Game of Thrones‘ wholeheartedly shipped Jon Snow and Yggrite’s relationship. Tyrion Lannister did not have much luck in the romantic development. Lastly, Arya Stark as a true lone wolf went to make her own adventures. However, while writing ‘The Song of Ice and Fire’ in 1993, George R. R. Martin planned a completely different dynamic for the three characters.
Initially, Martin planned a love triangle between the Lord Commander, Arya Stark, and the ‘Imp’ Lannister. The HBO production has presented some shocking pairings throughout eight seasons—for instance, the toxic incestuous relationship between Cersei and Jamie Lannister. However, Martin scrapped the idea and went in different directions. Although the character development of the three was brilliant, why did Martin let go of the idea in the first place?

The Idea Of Arya Falling In Love With Jon Was Leaked
Jon was the bastard son of Winterfell and Arya Stark had the tomboyish wolf’s blood. Both felt like outsiders therefore an intimate sibling relationship existed between them in the series. However, in the initial concept of ‘The Song of Ice And Fire’, Arya had a crush on Jon since the beginning of the series. When Winterfell is attacked by the Lannisters, Catelyn Stark flees to the Wall with Arya and Bran.
There Arya is horrified to find that her love extends beyond the spheres of brother and sister. However, George revealed that the concept of his love triangle was leaked to the public. Hence, he had to scrap the idea into the bin. It was revealed that Jon is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, making him Arya’s cousin. But would the ‘GOT‘ fandom be on board with another pairing within the family circle?

George R.R. Martin Regretted Discarding Jon-Arya-Tyrion Love Triangle
Later, George R. R. Martin revealed that he regretted not moving forward with the idea of the love triangle between Jon Snow, Arya Stark, and Tyrion Lannister. North was at war with the Lannisters. Cersei who already hated her youngest brother, had Tyrion exiled. Stripped of his rank, Tyrion joined the North cause. There Tyrion fell head over heels for Arya Stark. Yet again he would have rotten luck with unreciprocated love.
However, Tyrion’s passion would remain constantly intense. He and Jon get into a sour rivalry over Arya. In the series, Tyrion played by Peter Dinklage had a soft spot for Jon Snow, because he was a bastard. In season eight of ‘Game of Thrones’ Tyrion convinced Daenerys Targaryen to help Jon to fight the Long Night War with White Walkers.
