Jeremiah Fisher’s love life has always been tangled, but season 3 of ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty‘ pushed him into brand-new territory. After all the ups and downs with Belly and Conrad, no one expected Jeremiah to suddenly find himself drawn to someone else entirely.
But that’s exactly what happened in the finale. And, now, fans are wondering what it could mean for the movie that will officially bring the story to an end. Could this new spark turn into something bigger, or is it just a surprise?
Jeremiah Moves On From Belly In ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’

While living in Boston with work-friend Denise, Jeremiah shared a kiss that caught them both off guard. Denise had earlier lifted Jeremiah’s spirits by calling him a “10,” and maybe that encouragement eventually built up to that unexpected kiss.

That kiss came just as fans learned the series would not return for a fourth season. Instead, Prime Video announced that the story will wrap up with a movie, written and directed by author Jenny Han and co-showrunner Sarah Kucserka. Because of that timing, their connection immediately raised the possibility that it could carry over into the film.
While Sean Kaufman, who plays Steven, has always hoped Steven would end up with Taylor, even some office scenes between Jeremiah and Denise made him curious. But he finally got his answer at the end of the season.
Gavin Casalegno Opens Up About The Finale Twist

Talking about this, Gavin Casalegno, who plays Jeremiah, has opened up that the storyline was a complete surprise. He shared that Jenny Han warned him around episode six that a big change was coming, but when he read the script, he still thought, “holy frig, I did not see that coming.”
Even so, Casalegno said the twist was exciting and described the kiss as a total curveball, but also admitted it was fun to film and gave the finale an edge he hadn’t expected. In fact, according to him, he moment turned out “so great,” and it gave just the right amount of shock to close the season.

When asked if Denise would return in the movie, Casalegno admitted he hadn’t really thought about it. He said it might be too soon for Jeremiah to start something new, especially after nearly marrying Belly. At the same time, he explained that living with someone naturally creates closeness, which is why Jeremiah and Denise’s bond developed. Still, he felt it might not be the right moment for Jeremiah to commit again. In the end, Casalegno reminded fans that the choice isn’t his. Since he doesn’t write the story, he’ll be waiting, just like everyone else, to see what the writers decide.
Now that the movie is confirmed, fans are eager to know what comes next. Jenny Han and Sarah Kucserka are leading the project, so the story will stay true to the series while also bringing fresh surprises. That makes Jeremiah’s love life one of the biggest questions heading into the final chapter.
Now, as everyone waits for the film, there’s still one mystery: will Jeremiah and Denise’s spark continue, or will he take a completely different path?
