If you’re a fan of ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘, you probably know that Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) has been through a lot of trauma in her life. From being abandoned by her birth mother to escaping an abusive marriage, struggling with homelessness and addiction, to losing her husband Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) to his ex-wife Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), Jo has faced many challenges and heartbreaks.
But in season 17, Jo found a new source of joy and hope – baby Luna. Luna is the daughter of Val Ashton, a patient who died from complications after giving birth to Luna at 26 weeks. Jo met Luna while working as a general surgeon and fell in love with the baby girl. She decided to adopt her and become a single mother. But who is the father of Luna? And will he ever show up in Jo’s life?

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Luna’s Biological Father
According to Val, Luna was conceived from a one-night stand she had following her divorce. She didn’t know the name of the man, only that he was tall and blonde. She also didn’t tell him that she was pregnant, since she didn’t think he would care.
Luna’s biological father has never appeared on ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘, and it’s unlikely that he will. Jo has no way of finding him, and she doesn’t seem interested in doing so. She loves Luna as her own daughter and doesn’t need anyone else to complete their family.

Jo’s Career Change
Jo’s care for Luna gave her a brand new perspective on her chosen career, influencing her decision to switch specialties from general surgery to obstetrics and gynecology. Jo realized that she wanted to help women and babies after working with Luna and other patients. She also felt that she needed a fresh start after Alex left her.
Jo applied for a fellowship in OB/GYN at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital and was accepted by Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato). She started her training in season 18 and faced some challenges along the way. She had to learn new skills, deal with difficult cases, and adjust to a different work environment. Jo found joy and satisfaction in her new specialty just like most of the characters in ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘ and proved that she was capable of reinventing herself and following her passion.
