As 2024 comes to a close, fans of ‘House of the Dragon’ are getting a reason to celebrate. While the new year won’t bring a fresh season of the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel, exciting updates about Season 3 have started to emerge.
Showrunner Ryan Condal has confirmed that production for the highly anticipated third season will begin in January 2025, with filming expected to commence in the first quarter of the year, likely in March.
Filming For ‘House Of The Dragon’ Season 3 Expected To Begin In First Quarter Of 2025
After months of speculation, Ryan Condal recently confirmed on The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of podcast that production for Season 3 will kick off right after the New Year. Although an exact date wasn’t provided, he hinted at a January 3 start, with filming expected to run through late fall.
“2025 is gonna be utter madness from January like third until deep in the fall when we wrap production,” Condal revealed. “We do, I don’t want to say it because it’ll be a thing, but it’s the first quarter 2025.” Moreover, this timeline sets the stage for a 2026 premiere.
Additionally, it aligns with the show’s established pattern of releasing new seasons every two years. However, the updates don’t stop there, Condal is already hyping the upcoming season as the most thrilling chapter yet.
This schedule not only ensures that work on Season 3 is on track but also hints at the ambitious scale of the upcoming episodes. Previous reports also suggest that the show will only have a four-season run with season 4 concluding the Targaryen saga.
Showrunner Ryan Condal Claims ‘House Of The Dragon’ Season 3 “Is the Best Season to Come”
The second season of ‘House of the Dragon’ left fans with mixed feelings. While some praised its character development and intricate political drama, others found it lacking the explosive energy that defines ‘Game of Thrones.’ To fans, it felt like more of a filler season and a very long teaser for season 3.

Ryan Condal, however, is confident that Season 3 will be a game-changer. “I will say, this is the best season to come,” Condal stated on the podcast. “There is, it is as outlandish as Leavesden Studios has been with our show to date. We’ve outlandished ourselves this time around. So plenty to see, it will be a good one.”
The promise of an “outlandish” season has fans buzzing with anticipation. Season 3 is set to explore the full-blown civil war between Rhaenyra Targaryen and her half-brother Aegon II. It will dive head first into the Dance of the Dragons. Additionally, key events like the Battle of the Gullet, which was originally planned for Season 2 but pushed back, will finally take center stage.
