Daemon has been haunted by visions of young Rhaenyra sewing Jaehaerys’ head on and even Laena Valeryon serving him wine. This time, the rogue prince had a vision of his mother. But it wasn’t pleasant at all. Today we discuss what the vision signifies for Daemon. And who his mother Alyssa Targaryen was.
What Does Daemon Targaryen’s Disturbing Vision Mean?
It’s either Harrehall’s curse or Alys Rivers’ witch spell or both that is not letting Daemon sleep, eat, or function properly. This time he has a dream of having sex with an unknown silver-haired woman. Viewers never met this Targaryen woman before in the series.
In Daemon’s vision, the woman compares Daemon to Viserys. She calls him a fearless dragonrider and the “finest swordsman” who was made to wear the crown, not Viserys. At the end of the vision, she calls him her “favorite son”. So it is made clear that the woman is Alyssa Targaryen, Daemon and Viserys’ mother.
Daemon’s visions are mainly rooted in his failures and insecurities. And his latest vision stems from the root of all of his insecurities. Alyssa died when Daemon was just a child. So Daemon never got a mother’s love that he so desperately craves. Another point of similarity between Aemond and Daemon- their unaddressed ‘mommy issues’. So why did he have a vision of having sex with his mother? Well, this is probably because Daemon associates womanly love with sex and he never experienced anything else. So he visualizes a sexual relationship with his mother to fully affirm to himself that he’s worthy enough to be king.

All About Alyssa Targaryen
Although ‘House Of The Dragon’ never mentions Alyssa Targaryen seriously before this episode, she is a very important character in the books. She is the only daughter of King Jaehaerys I and Queen Alysanne Targaryen who survives to adulthood.
She is described in the books as ferocious, rough, free-spirited, witty and headstrong in nature. Alyssa married her elder brother Baelon the Brave. Alyssa is also the first rider of Meleys. She died when Viserys and Daemon were young children while birthing her third child. The child also could not survive, unfortunately. In the series, Emeline Lambert portrays Alyssa’s character.
