The recent ‘House of the Dragon‘ revelation that Hugh Hammer, a seemingly ordinary blacksmith, was actually a Targaryen bastard was pretty shocking in itself. At the heart of this surprising lineage is Saera Targaryen, a princess as infamous as she is intriguing.
According to what Hugh had to say, Saera did not lead much of a princess life. She spent her days as a low-born commoner and worked her nights in a brothel to provide. So, what exactly is it that went wrong with Saera?

Saera Targaryen: The Rebellious Princess Who Wasn’t As Lucky As Rhaenyra
Saera, the ninth child of King Jaehaerys Targaryen and Queen Alysanne, was a rebellious spirit, much like Rhaenyra. Moreover, she was known for her beauty, intelligence, and defiance of royal norms especially at a time when women weren’t allowed to do much. This is exactly why people reacted the way they did when Viserys named Rhaenyra his heir.
Saera, meanwhile, was know for her promiscuous behavior which included affairs with members of the Kingsguard. This led to her imprisonment and eventual disownment by her father.
Her life took a dramatic turn after she was banished from the royal court into the confines of the Silent Sisters, where she had been sent for penance. From what Hugh said in the latest ‘House of the Dragon’ episode, she got into prostitution, a far cry from the life she was born into.

Did Rhaenyra’s Plan Of Turning Dragonseeds Into Dragonriders Work?
Hugh Hammer’s claim to be Saera’s son added another significant layer of complexity to the already intricate tapestry of Westeros politics. Rhaenyra had been scheming to get her dragons their riders. However, to everyone’s surprise, dragonseeds did have the potential.
After Addam of Hull claimed Seasmoke, Rhaenyra saw the opportunity and jumped on it. Moreover, she assembled all the Dragonseeds to Dragonstone to find riders for Silverwing and Vermithor. While most of them did not survive, two bastards, Ulf and Hugh, claimed the beasts.
By the end of the episode, both Ulf and Hugh were in full control of their dragons, always scaring Aemond and Vhagar in the present process. However, while this might help Rhaenyra claim her throne, it might also lead to people questioning the legitimacy of her children.
