The finale of ‘How I Met Your Mother‘ is one of the most debatable sitcom endings. Fans have endlessly defended or argued Tracy’s death, Robin and Barney’s divorce, and above all, Ted reuniting with Robin.
The series is a nine-season long tale of Ted Mosby’s attempt to find true love and become a “boring old couple”, only to see the mother killed off in the end. However, fans have brewed a better and less tiring ending for Ted. Some HIMYM fans believe Ted would have made a better match with Victoria, played by Ashley Williams. Why Victoria Could Have Been A Better Match For Ted Than Robin
Ted Mosby, the show’s lead character, meets Victoria in the season one episode titled ‘The Wedding‘. Both agree on a one-night stand but soon start dating. To many viewers, Victoria seemed to be Ted’s endgame in season one. However, they broke up due to long-distance and Ted almost cheated on Victoria with Robin.
However, in the early seasons, both Ted and Robin prove to be incredibly incompatible. Robin was career-driven and had an aversion to children while Ted’s dream was more domestic. On the other hand, Victoria was a baker who had similar priorities to Ted. Hence, both could have made a better match than with Robin.

Victoria and Ted’s romance was reprised in seasons seven and eight. She gives Ted an ultimatum to stop seeing Robin or they would break up. However, the relationship is again doomed when Victoria explains to Ted that the reason he cannot find love is because he cannot move on from Robin.
Victoria Could Have Been The Mother To Ted’s Children
Carter Bays, one of the creators, wrote on his Reddit AMA that Victoria could have been the mother Ted talks about in HIMYM. In the season eight finale, Tracy, played by Cristin Milioti, is revealed as the mother of Ted’s children.
However, Bays stated that if the show was to be canceled after two seasons, Victoria would have been the mother. But the baker would have met a similar fate as Tracy.

The show creators always knew that Robin was Ted’s endgame. So if Victoria had married and settled with Ted, she would have been killed off like Tracy. Therefore, the endless controversy over the finale could not have been avoided by the show. The mother dies from an undisclosed disease.
In the show’s finale ‘Last Forever’, Ted reunites with Robin taking the blue French horn with him as he did in season one.
