Hunter Schafer has become a household name, thanks to her breakout role as Jules Vaughn on HBO’s ‘Euphoria.’ Her portrayal of the complex and emotionally charged character captivated audiences worldwide, making her one of the standout stars of the series.
Since then, Schafer’s career has only soared higher, with roles in major films like ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes‘ and ‘Cuckoo.’ However, as ‘Euphoria‘ gears up to begin filming its much-anticipated third season in January 2025, there’s a significant cloud of uncertainty surrounding the show—and even the cast is feeling it.
‘Euphoria’ Season 3 Is Facing Many Challenges
During a candid interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Schafer dropped a truth bomb that left ‘Euphoria‘ fans buzzing. Despite the scheduled production, Schafer admitted she has “no fucking idea what’s going on” with the upcoming season. “You can ask literally all of the cast,” she revealed to host Alex Cooper. “The real tea is that a lot has happened.”
Schafer’s comments highlight the emotional toll that recent events have taken on the ‘Euphoria‘ family. Reflecting on the tragic losses of co-star Angus Cloud, who passed away at just 25 in July 2023, and producer Kevin Turen, who died in November of that same year, Schafer got visibly emotional.
“I think everyone feels a certain sense of anticipation for if we are supposed to do Season 3,” she shared. “Obviously I’m still coming to qualms about what’s happened and losing people that we really loved and were a part of this family and everything. If we do go back, that’s going to be tough.”
Yet, despite the challenges, Schafer believes there’s potential for something beautiful to emerge from the pain. “I think there’s a world in which we can channel that into making it a beautiful Season 3—if it is supposed to happen, but I think that shit really threw everyone for a loop,” she said.

Hunter Schafer’s Journey From Doubt To Stardom
Beyond the uncertainty of ‘Euphoria‘s future, Schafer also opened up about her initial doubts when auditioning for the show. Surprisingly, she kept the audition a secret at first, unsure if acting was the right path for her. “I really wasn’t sure that I was going to do it because, once again, I didn’t think acting was my calling or anything,” Schafer confessed. This hesitancy was compounded by her upbringing in a Christian household, where she feared how her parents would react to the show’s explicit content.
“There’s this whole pastor’s daughter trope. And it gets kind of tough,” Schafer explained. “When I had to tell my parents, ‘In the first episode, I’m having anal sex with a 45-year-old and cutting myself in the arm,’ my first thought is like, okay, they have to tell their congregation that their kid’s going to be on TV, and then their congregation, who are just little old nice white Christian people from the south, are going to watch this TV show and see me getting fucked. I still do feel bad because that’s something they still have to deal with.”
Along the way, she’s had the support of her ‘Euphoria‘ co-star Zendaya, who has become one of her closest friends. “Thankfully, she had had some experience with fame already. We were really close by the time we really fell in love with each other as friends in the first season,” Schafer said. “She was able to help me through all that.”
