After being secretive about her role in ‘The Testaments’ for ages, Elizabeth Moss has finally made her appearance in The Handmaid’s Tale sequel series. And if you are thinking that Moss is only appearing as a supporting character, you are wrong.

Moss’s special connection with Agnes and Daisy, the two new protagonists, reveals that she will play a pivotal role in the show.

Elizabeth Moss gave a career-defining performance as June Osbourne in ‘The Handmaid’s Tale.’ So, when ‘The Testaments’ was greenlit, she became the executive producer, assuring fans she would be engaged in the project creatively. However, in the three-part premiere of the sequel, the actress reprised her role.

Set four years after the events of the dystopian tale’s finale, ‘The Testaments’ focuses on a whole new generation who are being raised in the stifling system of Gilead. Not the Red Centre, the epicentre of brutality here is Aunt Lydia School for prepubescent girls. It’s a grooming zone for future Commanders’ wives.

The two main protagonists this time are Agnes MacKenzie, a girl from a prestigious family in Gilead preparing to marry a high-level Commander, and Daisy, a runaway Canadian girl whose life is turned upside down because of Gilead.

But how is June connected to these young girls? In the first episode of ‘The Testaments’, we only get a glimpse of the OG Mayday resistance warrior, quietly observing Daisy from afar. It is only in the later episodes that we find that June is actually the force behind Gilead’s impending doom. Her weapons? Daisy and, hopefully, Agnes.

In the present, Daisy is horrified at how the Gilead regime operates. But secretly, she is gathering intel for Mayday. In flashbacks, we see how she was recruited into the fight for freedom.

Daisy was once like every other young teenage girl: a rebellious spirit, a dreamy girlfriend, and a loving daughter. That all came crashing down once her parents were mysteriously killed in a brutal attack on their vintage store.

June takes her away from people claiming to be from social services and tells Daisy the truth. Her parents were Mayday operatives, and Gilead came after them. She eventually becomes Daisy’s mentor, coming clean about her Gilead roots and adoption in Canada. It was all to keep her safe. Fans know she is June and Nick’s daughter.

Daisy is the hail mary in new Mayday resistance. She enters Gilead as a Pearl at Aunt Lydia’s preparatory school, only to work for June as a spy.

As for Agnes, she is actually Hannah (June and her ex-husband Luke’s daughter). June is not only working to free the people of Gilead but also to rescue her daughter, who was snatched by Gilead, and is now doomed to become a Commander’s Wife. Traces of her finding her home and country claustrophobic are already evident. Now, it’s on Daisy to transform her into an ally.

The good news is there’s no doubt that June is not going anywhere anytime soon. Instead, she is quietly working for the Mayday resistance through her own blood.
