Most viewers of ‘House of the Dragon‘ are at the edge of their seats while watching the show, and understandably so. The plot twists that the story has been throwing our way are difficult to fathom. But it may not be as difficult for fans who come from the age of ‘Game of Thrones‘. The predecessor has already set the bar high for shocking twists and turns and deaths and whatnot!
As the brutal Targaryen civil war between the Greens and the Blacks has officially been ignited, the fate of every character in House of the Dragon hangs in the balance. While readers of George R. R. Martin’s novels may know who ultimately survives the “dance of dragons,” viewers of the series are largely left in suspense, particularly regarding Rhaenyra’s destiny. And we’re sure they are loving it, because that’s what this franchise does!

King Joffrey Casually Mentions Rhaenyra’s Fate In ‘Game Of Thrones’
Other than gore and deaths and the many “Et Tu Brutus?” moments, the show is also famous for its historically rich Easter eggs. While Rhaenyra’s death on the show was a major plot twist, the infamous King Joffrey from ‘Game of Thrones’ had already hinted at it quite casually in Season 3, while giving Margaery Tyrell a tour of the Great Sept of Baelor.
“Rhaenyra was eaten by her own brother’s dragon right in front of her son,” Joffrey tells Margaery in the said episode of ‘Game of Thrones’, adding that what’s left of her is buried in the crypts below. Now some fans may remember this, and would very well be able to be in awe of the intricacies of the story that the franchise is telling us.
However, Joffrey’s story lacks specifics and leaves viewers guessing. His brief story leaves much to the imagination.

The ‘Game Of Thrones’ Easter Egg Does Not Entirely Spoil Rhaenyra’s Death In ‘House Of The Dragon’
By mentioning that Rhaenyra’s remains are buried in the crypt, King Joffrey’s theory from ‘Game of Thrones’ suggests that her side, the Blacks, and her heirs prevailed over Aegon II and the Greens. Otherwise, why would Aegon II preserve the remains of a traitor to the crown? This might mean there could be a post-war necessity to unite the Realm, even if the Greens win.
Joffrey also mentions Rhaenyra’s brother and son, but doesn’t specify which ones. Now Rhaenyra has three half-brothers—Aegon II, Aemond, and Daeron—and four living sons—Jacaerys, Joffery, Aegon III, and Viserys II. So there are multiple possible outcomes. Each imaginable scenario changes the narrative’s dynamics.
If Aegon II is the culprit, it might imply a Green victory. If Aemond or Daeron is responsible, Rhaenyra’s death could be a war casualty that impacts the Blacks. Her death could also be part of a desperate Green strategy in a losing battle. Regardless of which brother kills her, it’s clear that knowing this detail doesn’t spoil the series — but in fact, adds to its intrigue.
‘House of the Dragon‘ is streaming on Max, with new episodes premiering on HBO and Max every Sunday.
