‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Thought The Show Would Flop After One Season

HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ is one of the most successful TV shows of all time, but it seems that one of the main leads of the show didn’t even think that it would last even a season. In a recent interview, Kit Harington, who played the role of Jon Snow across all eight seasons of the show, shared some shocking revelations regarding the initial production.

While Harington rose to global fame after his breakout role in the drama series, he and the cast members were unsure of the impact they would have, and certainly didn’t think it would change prestige television.

During his recent interview with Mr Porter, Harington stated that the makers sold the merchandise rights at the start, as no one was sure that the show would be a huge hit. “We sold our merchandise rights at the start because none of us thought it would take off like that”, said the 39-year-old.

He further stated how everyone took their roles seriously during filming and thought that they would indulge in other projects after the season. Harington added, “We all worked hard and took our roles seriously, but we had a lot of fun, too. We thought, well, this will last a season and then we’ll go off and do other things and all stay in touch”.

Not only was the show a tremendous success, but it also went on to become a pop culture phenomenon. The only lingering complaint fans have is the underwhelming climax. Even the actors were disappointed with the controversial final season. Nevertheless, it spawned spinoffs like ‘House of the Dragon‘ and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.’ The universe will be expanding further with more of George R.R. Martin’s stories under development for TV.

Despite the show ending in 2019, some of the actors haven’t been able to reconcile with the backlash and watch the final season of ‘Game of Thrones.’ Now, Kit Harington, who has sworn off returning to the franchise after his Jon Snow spinoff fell apart, has revealed why he can’t revisit the finale.

In the same interview, he stated how he might avoid watching it in the future as well because he was dealing with alcoholism back then. The actor has been vocal about his addiction, rehab stint, and commitment to sobriety.

Harington pointed out, “I actually think I look rather unwell in that final season. I’m not well. I’m struggling with alcohol at that point.” This is reminiscent of the time Matthew Perry admitted he couldn’t watch ‘Friends,’ because he barely recognized himself.

As for Harington, he is proud of the family he has created, and showed gratitude to his ‘Game of Thrones‘ co-star and wife, Rose Leslie, for supporting him. Now, he is excited about projects beyond Westeros.
