Stars Hollow’s love triangle is still doing what it does best: dividing fans. But this time, the debate feels a little more personal. In a new interview, ‘Gilmore Girls‘ favorite Milo Ventimiglia has opened up about how he would react if his own daughter picked the Dean team.
The actor has openly favored Jared Padalecki’s Dean in the past. But now, it’s a family affair.
Milo Ventimiglia Says He’d Be “Way Okay” If Daughter Ke’ala Is Team Dean
In ‘Gilmore Girls‘, Jess was part of the iconic love triangle with Rory Gilmore and her first boyfriend, Dean Forester. Fans still remember the dramatic dance marathon episode where Dean publicly broke up with Rory. In the scene, he pointed out that her feelings for Jess were “so damn obvious.” That moment officially split viewers into teams, and the debate never really stopped.

However, Milo Ventimiglia, who played Jess Mariano on the show, is not losing sleep over the Team Dean vs. Team Jess debate. The ‘Gilmore Girls‘ alum told PEOPLE what he’d do if his 1-year-old daughter, Ke’ala, decides she’s Team Dean someday.
Ke’ala, whom he shares with his wife Jarah Mariano, is still far too young to understand Stars Hollow drama. But her dad already knows how he’d react. “I’d be way okay if my daughter eventually watched the show and she was Team Dean,” he said. And he explained why in the most wholesome way possible: “I get it because I’m Team Jared, so I get it.”
Why Milo Ventimiglia Supports Team Dean
Ventimiglia made it clear that while Jess, Dean, and Logan were very different characters, the actors behind them share a bond unlike any other. Ventimiglia spoke warmly about Padalecki and Matt Czuchry, aka Logan Huntzberger, another of Rory’s major love interests. He said the three characters were “very spread apart” in terms of who they were, but the actors themselves couldn’t be more wonderful.

The Jess actor described Padalecki and Czuchry as the best guys and said they couldn’t be any lovelier as human beings. More than 20 years after filming the series, they still talk about the show they worked on as they grew up and share genuine affection and respect for one another.
Padalecki surprised fans when he admitted he’s now Team Jess. Looking back at the storyline, he feels Jess made sense for Rory during that period of her life. He openly acknowledged that all three guys had flaws and said clearly that Dean had his issues, too, but today he roots for Jess.
