HBO’s upcoming ‘Harry Potter‘ television series is set to excite longtime fans by bringing back a beloved book character to live in action for the first time.
Peeves, the Poltergeist, the mischievous spirit who has caused chaos in JK Rowling’s novels since ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,’ will appear on screen in the highly anticipated series. Unlike the eight Warner Bros. films, which left out the chaotic poltergeist completely, the new show will bring this fan-favorite troublemaker back to the halls of Hogwarts.
Who is Peeves? The Poltergeist of Hogwarts Explained

In Rowling’s books, Peeves is no ordinary ghost. While Hogwarts houses have their own spirits, Nearly Headless Nick for Gryffindor, the Bloody Baron for Slytherin, the Fat Friar for Hufflepuff, and the Grey Lady for Ravenclaw, Peeves is a freewheeling poltergeist with no house allegiance.
He is a small, flying figure, with a wicked grin, a bright orange bow tie, and a love for mayhem. He enjoys pelting students with water balloons, unscrewing chandeliers, and tormenting anyone in his path, especially the long-suffering caretaker Argus Filch.

HBO ‘Harry Potter’ TV Series Promises More Faithful Book Adaptation

The choice to include Peeves reflects the series’ goal of staying closer to the books. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner, known for ‘Succession,’ and director Mark Mylod are guiding a project meant to span multiple seasons, with each season roughly following one of Rowling’s novels.
This longer format gives space for fan-favorite side characters and storylines that were cut short or shortened in the films.
