“There was nothing that we couldn’t accomplish,” Combs said while reflecting on their long-standing creative partnership. She admitted that when she looks back now, she feels they didn’t act on enough of those ideas. She added that Doherty would have likely pushed them much further.
Combs revealed that those plans included launching their own ‘Charmed’ convention in the U.S. In fact, Doherty even planned to build a brand tied to the show. She explained that Doherty constantly generated ideas, saying, “She just had copious amounts of inspiration around her all the time”. She also added that there were “so many scripts she had,” including show ideas specifically meant for them.
The Plans May Be Gone, But The Legacy Remains Strong

Combs made it clear that Doherty’s ideas were not just about revisiting ‘Charmed‘. They were about expanding it into something new. While discussing the season 4 episode “Muse to My Ears,” Combs found herself borrowing from Doherty’s real-life influence.

“I had Shannen telling me for most of my life, if we want to talk about muses and cheerleaders and people,” Combs began. Then, she went on to describe placing photos of Doherty around her barbecue area.
“At one point, when we had a crushing day, and I was sitting there covered in various degrees of grease, I realized the pictures I put around it [were] like I was building this shield of armor,” she shared. That moment made her recognize just how deeply Doherty’s presence continued to guide her.
Even though those ‘Charmed‘ plans never came to life, Combs’ reflections show how serious Doherty had been about continuing the show’s legacy. Combs grew emotional as she spoke about Doherty’s influence, saying, “Her inspiration was boundless.”
After Doherty’s death, Combs paid tribute to her longtime friend, calling her the “better half” of her life for 31 years. She wrote, “There is a hollow in my chest, and I can’t seem to catch my breath. A part of me is missing,” while also expressing that she knows Doherty’s spirit continues to live on through her and her children, whom she loved as her own.
While those ambitious ‘Charmed‘ plans may never fully materialize, Doherty’s creative vision and energy are still keeping that dream alive in a different way.
