Netflix’s ‘Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen’ just premiered on March 26, and it’s everything eerie you’d expect from a culty, creepy rich-people wedding. Duffer Brothers do manage to put in enough plot twists to make the entire eight episodes worthwhile, even if the buildup stretches a little.
It might not be the next ‘Stranger Things’, but we have to admit, the series is growing on us. If you’ve just finished devouring ‘Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen’ and are looking for a similar energy, this list might help!

With nail-biting plot twists and creepy cults, ‘Archive 81′ shares the taste for horror much like ‘Something Very Bad is Going To Happen’. The series has two timelines, with Dan and Melody, two archivists who lead the narrative. The series follows them as they become immersed in the rituals of a secret society after being hired for a restoration project.
9. Midnight Mass (2021)

The 2021 miniseries, starring Hamish Linklater and Kate Siegel, follows a fanatic priest who seeks to restore faith in a dying town. The priest’s charming presence, however, hides a careful plan for resurrection. The series has its fair share of striking visuals that set the priest’s disguised acts in chilling contrast.
8. The Haunting of Hill House (2018)

This adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s novel follows siblings as they return to the haunted house they left behind. Told in two timelines, the family’s past and present collide when they cannot move on from the trauma left behind by the demonic experience they had. Victoria Pedretti leads the storyline as Nell Crain, one of the siblings who carries the mansion’s haunting on a much larger scale.
7. The Fall of the House of Usher (2023)

The iconic Victorian short story by Edgar Allen Poe gets a modern twist in the 2023 miniseries ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’, centred on the Usher clan, a wealthy family spanning generations. The series takes you through mysteries and supernatural elements that culminate in the deaths of the heirs to Roderick Usher, the family patriarch.
6. Servant (2019 – 2023)

Mixing psychological illness with horror elements, ‘Servant’ follows a grieving couple who attempt to recover from the death of their newborn with a lookalike doll. Except it invites unwanted forces that take possession. The series has earned the approval of goth legends, including Stephen King and Guillermo del Toro, for its gripping visuals, and it is safe to say the storyline grows creepier with each episode!

5. From (2022 – Present)

The residents and new occupants of a mysterious town are trapped there at dusk as supernatural creatures hunt them. Throughout its seasons, the aim is simple: to find a way out before the sun goes down. The gritty series is expecting its next season this year, so the excitement is as strong as ever.
4. Behind Her Eyes (2021)

Soul switching and heinous intentions follow a woman, Louise, who has an affair with her psychiatrist in this 2021 thriller. Starring Simona Brown, Tom Bateman, and Eve Hewson, the series takes an unexpected route when the wife of Dr. David Ferguson attempts to be friends with Louise. Behind the guise of a newfound friendship, however, dubious intentions lie, and you’re left guessing until the very end.
3. The Outsider (2020)

This 2020 miniseries is an adaptation of the horror genius Stephen King himself. It follows a murder investigation that is later revealed to be tied to foreign entities. The series presents a dark setting with a lot of misdirection before the final reveal, much like ‘Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen’.
2. The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)

An outsider enters a mansion to care for two orphaned children and begins experiencing paranormal phenomena that threaten them. ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’ leans more on paranormal horror. But there’s a romance subplot that makes it a little tamer than the rest of the list. That being said, it still has its fair share of ‘dead but not dead’ moments.

This critically acclaimed French horror series follows a novelist who returns to her hometown to investigate the suicide of her friend. However, her return is affected by her past, when the spirit that once influenced her resumes haunting her.
