Stephen Amell, the star of the hit CW series ‘Arrow’, has revealed that there were plans that went beyond just the show. The actor claimed that the idea for an ‘Arrow’ movie had also come up.
However, it was ultimately scrapped due to “fear-based” decisions made by studio executives. Amell was not happy about this as he wanted the film to happen and saw a lot of potential. Here’s what happened.
Stephen Amell Blames “Fear Based Decisions” By Warner Bros. For ‘Arrow’ Film’s Scraping
While talking to the Inside of You podcast, Stephen Amell expressed his disappointment over the decision to shelve the film. “To my understanding, it just got killed at the studio level from people that, I think, were making decisions that were fear-based,” Amell said.
Moreover, he stated that he believed it would have been a great opportunity to continue the story of Oliver Queen. According to him, scrapping the film just because they were afraid that the movie wouldn’t live up to the original series was a terrible reason not to take a job. Amell argued that a movie based on a popular TV series can be a successful endeavor.
He added that it didn’t have to live up to the expectations of fans of the original show. Moreover, he believes that different people will come across it, like people who have never seen the original show, or people who love the original and want to see the film. So, it would be a great opportunity to tell a new story and to expand the world of the show.
The ‘Arrow’ Movie Had Heavy Potential
The ‘Arrow‘ series, which ran for eight seasons from 2012 to 2020, was a critical and commercial success. It was also behind the launching of a successful shared universe known as the Arrowverse. The show followed Oliver Queen. Oliver is a billionaire playboy who returns to his hometown of Starling City after being shipwrecked on an island for five years.

Upon his return, Queen takes on the mantle of the Arrow, a vigilante who fights crime and corruption. Moreover, an ‘Arrow’ movie could have been a natural continuation of the series. It could’ve explored new aspects of Oliver Queen’s character and the world of Starling City.
So, it could have also introduced new characters and storylines or followed the old ones and expanded the Arrowverse in exciting ways.
