Stranger Things Season 4 was recenty released on Netflix. The actors of the popular show have returned once again to play their respective characters. The trailer had teased a new storyline for some of its characters.
Now that the audience gets to see and follow their journey, they are confused and perplexed, especially with Noah Schnapp’s Will Byers character. Producer Shawn Levy has come forward to address fan questions surrounding Will’s sexuality. Readers are being warned of season four major spoilers ahead.
Is Will Byers On Stranger Things Gay?
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Levy did not directly answer the question of whether Will is gay. He instead chooses to give an explanation. He said, “clear intention and strategy and real thought” is given while building each character.
”Without getting into where we go later in Season 4 [Volume 2], I guess I’ll just say that there aren’t many accidents on Stranger Things,” the producer said. “There is clear intention and strategy and real thought given to each and every character. So, if you came away from Volume 1 feeling those bread crumbs of plot and character, it’s probably no accident.”
The Alan Turing Connection
It has been pointed out that a scene in episode five has a moment where Will opens up to Mike. The character of Mike is portrayed by Finn Wolfhard. The scene may allude to the former attempting to open up about his sexuality.
He tells Mike, ”Sometimes I think it’s just scary to open up like that, to say how you feel, especially to people you care about the most because what if they don’t like the truth?” There are also many instances throughout the season that could refer to Will’s sexuality. Such as his report on World War II codebreaker Alan Turing, who was prosecuted in 1952 for homosexual acts.
There might be more to Will Byers’ character that we are yet to see. Maybe these doubts will be cleared in the end of this series, and with the release of Season 4 Volume II on July 1st.
