‘The Boys’ trailer for its final season is full of chaos, violence, and the type of shocking humor that the fans have grown to anticipate.
However, amid all the explosions and tense confrontations, there is one brief scene between Homelander and Soldier Boy that alludes to one of the most contentious plot points from the original comics.
‘The Boys’ Season 5 May Be Hinting At A Disturbing Comic Storyline

As ‘The Boys’ season 5 is about to give the story the long-awaited resolution, the new footage indicates that the show is not afraid to make fun of even the most uncomfortable aspects of its source material. And, judging by the trailer, there might be even more bizarre events between Homelander and Soldier Boy before the finale.

Halfway through the trailer, we see Homelander visiting a cryogenic chamber where Soldier Boy has been seemingly frozen. The former Vought hero is then shown sitting nonchalantly on Homelander’s bed in a very awkward encounter after being thawed out. This situation soon becomes weird when Soldier Boy makes a joke about whether Homelander would like to do an incestuous thing, which Homelander dismisses.
It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it line, but longtime readers of ‘The Boys’ will instantly recognize the reference. In the comics, Homelander dominates Soldier Boy in a power dynamic that is disturbing and is related to the notorious supe event, Herogasm. The plot was among the most controversial aspects of the comics, and most fans expected the TV version to evade it completely.
The series has already followed a much different path by disclosing that Soldier Boy Homelander’s biological father. Due to that twist, a lot of viewers thought that the series would avoid any form of the comic plot. Nevertheless, the dialogue used in the trailer indicates that the authors could not help but make a witty allusion. It is yet to be determined whether it is just a dark joke or an indication of something more uncomfortable.
The Show’s Soldier Boy Is Far More Compelling

While the comics tended to push the shock value, the show made Soldier Boy a surprisingly complex character. A lot of that credit belongs to Jensen Ackles, whose acting added charisma, bitterness, and emotional nuance to the role.
Soldier Boy in the show is not merely another parody of superheroes, but decades of trauma and family baggage, particularly after his relationship with Homelander was disclosed.

That is one of the reasons why the series has been so popular with viewers. Although the original comic tended to go over the top just to be outrageous, the TV adaptation has managed to strike a balance between its outrageous comedy and more serious character work.
With the last season on the way, it is evident that ‘The Boys’ is not afraid to shock the audience. However, it is also demonstrating that even its most provocative comic scenes can be re-done more interestingly.
