‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ star Elisabeth Moss, who played June in the hit show based on Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel, has opened up about passing the torch to her successor in the upcoming spin-off, ‘The Testaments’.

At the premiere of her new show ‘Imperfect Women’, Elizabeth Moss told Entertainment Tonight that she is very excited for fans to watch the new era of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ unfold. According to her, the best part will be Chase Infiniti’s performance as the new lead.

Moss understands the risks that come with playing such a complicated character. She described how rare it is to discover a talent so perfect, and Infiniti was the right choice. “She had to have a gravity to her, an intelligence, a sense of having come from something else, having come from somewhere else, and have that sense of complexity,” Moss explained.

The 43-year-old actress admitted she feels very fortunate to have witnessed Infiniti in action and can’t wait for fans of the franchise to see her continue the story. She suggested that dystopian stories like this rarely have a simple “happy ending,” though there can still be hope for change.

The sequel will be based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel ‘The Testaments’, which tells the story of Gilead 15 years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale. June’s story is left open-ended, and the focus shifts to the next generation of Handmaids and Commander’s Wives.

There is a mystery surrounding the actual content of the series, as the showrunners have made many changes to the storyline and characters. Chase Infiniti portrays the Gilead-raised Agnes MacKenzie, having forgotten her birth parents, June and Luke. She is a young girl who has been indoctrinated with the country’s religious teachings. But once she begins to learn more about her origin, she starts to question, rebel, and find allies.

In the book, Agnes pairs up with her sister Nicole, who infiltrates Gilead as Daisy. Together, they help bring down the powers that be. Of course, they have help, and it’s from one of the unlikeliest and most hated ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ character.

As for whether we will see Moss making a cameo in the spin-off, she revealed no secrets. “I can’t tell you either way,” she teased. “If I told you yes, then I can’t tell you no. It’s like, I can’t tell you anything about it.”

After nearly a decade of playing the iconic role of Offred, the actress is currently looking forward to ‘The Testaments,’ which is set to premiere on April 8 on Hulu.
