Top 10 Times ‘The Boys’ Parodied Pop Culture

Over the last few years, ‘The Boys’ has built its reputation as one of the most subtle and clever satires of modern pop culture. We can’t even begin to count the number of times it has approached blockbuster movies and viral online trends with unapologetic, pitch-black humor.

Here are the top 10 ‘The Boys’ parodies that we will never forget.

10. ‘The Boys’ End Up In The Upside Down

In season 2, we see the gang facing a certain girl with psychic powers and a shaved head, who hates liars. If you thought of Eleven from ‘Stranger Things’, you are wrong but not alone.

Instead, ‘The Boys’ came up with their own parodied version of the famous character, Cindy. In contrast to the waffle-loving Eleven that we know, Cindy isn’t afraid to use her unhinged powers against anyone without any hesitation.

9. American Hero

Within ‘The Boys‘ universe, we get the reality TV show ‘American Hero’, which not only became a pivotal plot point but also a brilliant parody of famous reality TV shows in real life.

From dramatic camera angles to huge mansions, American Hero had every staple element of reality shows like ‘The Bachelor’, ‘American Idol’, ‘Survivor’, etc. When the participants weren’t on camera, they even joked about how fake their reality show is, calling it “the reality behind the reality.”

8. A-Train’s Biopic

Near the end of season three, A-Train learns that he will be getting his own biopic. But unfortunately, this turns out to be an overly dramatized version of his life story that is not true at all.

This was a direct clapback at the 2009 movie ‘The Blind Side’, which was advertised as a close adaptation of Michael Oher’s life. Later, the actual athlete revealed that certain aspects of the film were heavily exaggerated.

7. ‘Chimps Don’t Cry

Crimson Countess’s attempt at raising awareness about the welfare of chimps with the song ‘Chimps Don’t Cry’ was hilariously similar to the long-running ad by the singer Sarah McLachlan.

From over-the-top visuals and a lack of subtlety in lyrics to numerous factual errors in the words, just for the drama, the music video is impossible to take seriously.

6. The Deep’s Lifetime Movie

In the series, we see the Deep getting his own movie, ‘Not Without My Dolphin.’ And there is no doubt that quick editing and dramatic text of the trailer reminded viewers of the infamous Lifetime movies.

Over the years, the network has built its reputation by turning sensational news headlines into extremely dramatic features. The Deep’s film was a perfect satire, exposing how over-the-top these movies are.

5. The Ant-Man Theory

Before ‘Avengers: Endgame’ was released, Marvel fans came up with a very outrageous theory as to how Ant-Man could defeat Thanos by using his shrinking abilities to crawl up Thanos’ private parts, only to grow back into a massive size.

Thankfully, the fan theory never came true, but ‘The Boys’ wasn’t going to lose this chance to parody a very graphic recreation when we saw Termite accidentally killing his boyfriend in this way in Season 3.

4. The Deep’s ‘Imagine’ Cover

No one can forget the video posted by Gal Gadot, where we see her singing John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ with a bunch of celebrities to raise morale in the midst of the pandemic. ‘The Boys’ parodied the video in season 3 when we saw The Deep posting an exact video with his celebrity friends.

It is so ironic that all it took for the show was to create an exact replica of the original to reveal how tone-deaf it was.

3. “Girls Get It Done

That one particular scene in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ where we see many of Marvel’s major heroines teaming up to fight has always divided the viewers. Some liked the fight, while some thought it felt too forced.

The Boys‘ revealed how cringy the whole scene was by just replicating it word for word in the episode where we see Starlight, Kimiko, and Maeve team up to fight Stormfront. But that is not all. The show also proved how Marvel could have gotten the scene right because in the episode, the girls’ alliance actually felt organic and inspiring.

2. A-Train’s Soft Drink Ad

When Pepsi released its infamous ad with Kendall Jenner way back in 2017, ‘The Boys’ writers were taking notes. They took satire to the next level when their soft-drink commercial was a shot-for-shot recreation of Pepsi’s ad.

A-Train took Jenner’s place to stop the clash between police in tactical gear and peaceful protesters to create this equally biting and hilarious parody.

1. ‘Dawn of the Seven

The Boy’s parody of blockbuster superhero movies with ‘Dawn of the Seven’ will always remain iconic. Throughout season 2, we saw the members shooting a movie, the title of which was a direct shot at the 2016 DC movie ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’. On the other hand, the plot was a direct copy of 2012’s ‘The Avengers’.

From the cringy dialogues to Charlize Theron’s cameo, the movie was a perfect satire of the Hollywoodized version of superhero movies.
