Super Bowl is a great place for advertisement as it is also one of America’s most celebrated gaming events. Naturally, there are several people bidding to get their ads on the big screen at Super Bowl every year. The ads also often make it to the headlines for various reasons.
One such commercial advertisement that has grabbed the viewers’ attention is an evangelical Christian group’s attempt to spread a message of humility on the Super Bowl platform. But it has seemingly gone terribly wrong as people are associating it with foot fetish.

Christian Group’s Attempt To Portray Jesus Washing Feet Goes Horribly Wrong
An evangelical Christian group’s attempt to get recognized during the Super Bowl has led to a controversy that they may have never expected. The advertisement is all good and fine, except for one thing – it is overly concentrated on feet, so much so that the viewers are associating it with foot fetish.
The ad was bankrolled by the evangelical Christian campaign ‘He Gets Us’. It was a minute long and showcased images of people washing each other’s feet. From a high schooler emptying her water bottle over a friend’s feet to a police officer washing a man’s feet in an alley, the commercial shows various foot-washing scenarios.

While the act symbolizes a biblical tale where Jesus washes his disciples’ feet, for many viewers, it was an overwhelming display of exposed feet and an eerie message associated with it. Many wondered if the advertisement was as holy as it intended to be or just a clever way of bringing foot fetish to the screen.

“This ‘Jesus Washing Feet’ Commercial Was Directed By Quentin Tarantino”: Social Media Reacts To Foot Fetish Ad
Social media users were quick to react as they flooded X with comments expressing bewilderment and, in some cases, revulsion. “This ‘Jesus washing feet’ commercial was definitely directed by Quentin Tarantino,” a user wrote, referring to Quentin Tarantino’s famous fascination with feet.
“Finally, a foot fetish Super Bowl ad,” another user joked in the comments section. Some observers also speculated that the images seemed generated by artificial intelligence.
‘He Gets Us’, the Christian group behind the ad, has close affiliations with the conservative billionaire family that owns the retail company Hobby Lobby, which is known for its anti-LGBTQ stance. The group also has ties to a charity that financially supports anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ legal endeavors, as reported by Rolling Stone.
Later in the game, ‘He Gets Us’ attempted to recover from their initial misstep by airing a second, less controversial Super Bowl ad— it was notably devoid of feet. However, the ad has left is mark and is being widely circulated on social media.
