Multiple anime conventions take place all around the world. However, if there is one convention that all anime fans eagerly wait for, it is the comic con. This year’s San Diego comic con, which took place from 20-23 July, did not disappoint the fans in any way. There were a lot of fans who attended the convention for their favorite creators. There were multiple famous names in the comic con and some creators made some very big announcements.
Here are the biggest anime announcements from this year’s San Diego comic con.
Mappa, Shinichiro Watanabe, And Chad Stahelski Introduce New Anime
The creator of one of the most famous anime ‘Cowboy Bebop‘ plans to direct a new anime along with Chad Stahelski, the director of ‘John Wick’, with the animation studio Mappa. The anime is going to be called ‘Lazarus’. According to sources, the anime will follow the story of a neuroscientist who disappears after creating a drug. He resurfaces three years later and announces that the drug will kill everyone who took it in three years. The anime does not have a release date, but the trailer was revealed in the San Diego comic con.
FLCL: Grunge Gets A New Season
Fooly Cooly, also known as FLCL is returning with the fourth season of its anime ‘FLCL: Grunge’. The difference between the upcoming season and the previous seasons however is the fact that this season will utilise 3D animation, done by MontBlanc Pictures. The previous seasons of the show had been very well received by fans and they are eager for its new season which will release on Toonami on September 9, 2023.
One Piece Live Action Looks Promising
Live actions have almost always been criticized by the fans. However, in a very pleasant surprise, the trailer for the live-action of ‘One Piece’ looks quite promising. The trailer was released on July 22. Fans like the easygoing relationship between the characters, similar to that of the manga and anime, and have great expectations for the live action. One can only hope that the live-action is just as good as its trailer. Oda himself commended the production team for bringing his anime to life. The live-action will be released on 31st August.
Monsters Will Get An Anime Adaptation
Eichiro Oda’s ‘Monster’ which is a one-shot manga he wrote before he started with ‘One Piece’ will receive an anime adaptation. The manga follows the story of a legendary swordsman Ryoma and his battle against a terrifying dragon. The release date for the series hasn’t been revealed.
Uzumaki May Be Junji Ito’s Best Anime
Junji Ito’s ‘Uzumaki’ one of the best horror manga, if not the most, is getting an anime adaptation. The trailer of the same was revealed in the San Diego comic con. The entire anime will be in black and white and will probably release this year on Toonami. The fans genuinely liked the trailer and the animation. Some fans even mentioned that the anime’s delay makes sense because of the attention to detail in the animation and the resemblance to Ito’s actual work. They consider it Ito’s best anime adaptation.
