‘One Piece’: Is Dr. Vegapunk Evil? Why Did He Experiment On Kuma?

The first mention of Dr. Vegapunk is when Koby speaks about him in the series ‘One Piece’. Furthermore, Franky also gets blown off to Vegapunk’s old laboratory by Kuma during the Sabaody Archipelago arc. He has been a constant influence on the story, one whose involvement or support for any party can hugely favor them in war.

As we have seen, Vegapunk is working with the World Government. Among his greatest inventions, experimentation on Kuma and Seraphim was notable. He was responsible for creating Pacifistas, multiplying Marine’s strength into infinitives. As of now, no gender has been given to his person, as he has the ability to split his personality into six different types.

    Is Dr. Vegapunk Evil?

Dr. Vegapunk is not evil. He is a scientist who is immersed in work, as he takes advantage of being an ally to the World Government. Unfortunately, his clone creation of Kuma into Pacifista and Seraphim allowed the government to continue its evil works. He once worked as an outlaw scientist and was captured by the government.

Later he became the leader of the SSG and continued his work. Vegapunk is a Devil’s Fruit User. his powers allow him to store thousands of information without forgetting any of them. Though it is not yet revealed, Vegapunk distributed his personality into six forms naming them according to their characters. They were Shaka (Good), Lilith (Evil), Edison (Thinking), Pythagoras (Wisdom), Atlas (Violence), and York (Greed).

Even though Vegapunk largely contributed to the Marines marking them as almost indestructible, he is also their enemy. He despises the World Government and its doings and is shown to have a deep connection with Dragon. Vrgapunk further found Ohara’s research books but refused to reveal anything to the Government for fear of them using it in the wrong ways.

He was even targeted by the CP0 by the orders of the Marines. They feared Vegapunk’s knowledge. They are afraid that if Vegapunk chooses the side of either the pirates or the Revolutionary army, it could turn the world against the government and the justice ‘facade’ itself.

Why Did He Experiment On Kuma?

There are several theories going around why Kuma let Dr. Vegapunk or even the World Government experiment on him. He was once a king, a revolutionist, and a Warlord, which is far off from happily shaking hands with the World Government. As we know, Vegapunk stayed with the government for his sake and the cost of experiments.

The most plausible reason would be, that the scientist was in awe of Kuma’s strength. He liked Kuma so he granted his final wish as a human. Kuma helped the Straw Hats crew in the Sabaody Archipelago for which he was labeled a traitor and punished. His punishment was to turn into a completely emotionless robot, a prototype of the Pacifistas.

His final wish was to protect the Straw Hats crew even in his tattered form for 2 years. Vegapunk granted his last wish as a human, before turning him into a robot. After he was turned into a robot, he was given to the Celestial Dragons as their slave. Some even state that Vegapunk and Kuma were friends. We hope to find out more about it in the upcoming series.
