    10 Best Horror Anime

Let’s revisit some of the classic horror-based anime, or animes that have the horror element woven into them. Let’s start with the Top 10 horror anime shows of all time (based on personal preference).

    Theatre of Darkness: Yamishibai

If you like creepy ghost tales, then this is for you. There is a total of 9 seasons with 5 minutes episodes each. But these 5 minutes will feel like an hour as it’ll incapacitate you from moving from your chair. It’s one of those classic, creepy, hairy, legendary ghost tales which you may have heard in childhood stories.

    Ghost Hunt

Though not really hardcore, this anime series will give you spine-chilling incidents, circling around old school buildings, curses, religious attempts, and secrets behind the curtains. The story revolves around a group of students who go on ghost hunting as their part-time job. The chilling experience that you’ll get from the series is very real.

    Elfen Lied

If you have sat down with tomato juice in hand or something that resembles the color red, then be aware. Elfen Lied talks about a monster girl who undergoes multiple experimental tortures, until finally breaking free from her captivity. The way she breaks from the lab is the bloodiest way possible. Better watch out for that bloodshed and violence in the anime.

    Devilman Crybaby

This anime goes against the bible, as it portrays all the demonic beings that the holy book told us to be aware of. Gore, violence, and distressing scenes are part of the anime, as the crying indicates we better watch out for what we are doing. Let’s strive for a better brighter future than indulge in petty war and arguments.

    Another

Which starts off as a normal school story, but later turns into a violent and gruesome plot, involving not only the school students but also their families. A girl commits suicide but her classmates treat it as if she’s still alive. Their attitude pulls in a violent and malice-filled spirit, which becomes the reason for multiple following deaths, including their family members.

    Tokyo Ghoul

A normal student becomes the victim of a flesh-eating ‘ghoul’ and gets involved in a tragic accident. He was supposed to die, but the doctor combines the boy’s body with that of the ghoul’s making him half human, half monster. As he keeps struggling with his new identity, beings far superior in strength attack him. The flesh-eating part with the sound in the anime is too much for people who abhor gore stuff.

    Parasyte

Alien beings infiltrate the earth and start killing human beings. But wait…That’s not all! They eat and creep into the human body, infest them, and leave it when all the nutrition is gone. Now that is what we will be dealing with in the anime ‘Parasyte’. The story follows a young boy who under circumstances comes to a truce with the parasite in his body, befriends him later on, and even fights against others being infested.

    Death Note

This is a very popular anime, where a shinigami (death reaper) follows a high-school boy on his adventurous journey. Now losing a book like the Death Note is a bit weird, but anyways, the antagonist finds the book and starts killing people by writing their names on it. It turns into a battle of wit as the law tries to catch the culprit. A death reaper following you just because what you are doing is interesting…is an everyday occurrence right?

    The Promised Neverland

Just as the name suggests, the anime follows the story of an orphanage and its nannies. The children there are totally adorable, so much so that the demons love eating them. The nannies know what they are doing, and even after that, they send the children so that the beasts can have a tasty treat every few times.

Moreover, the beasts are very choosy, they only like to eat brainy children. Are you good at your studies? Then be careful. If you are not, welcome aboard!

The name itself is very appetizing, right? Kisaragi Academy, the palace where the horror events take place, is a regular school, just like in the anime ‘Another’. The only difference will be, the school’s built on a place where rapists, drug addicts, murderers, and other anomalies used to take place. Their tortured souls still loiter around the place, peeking and saying ‘hi’ to you every now and then. If anyone wants a field trip, how about this school? A trip with tortured souls?
