Jo Koy became a much-talked-about topic after the Golden Globes on Sunday, but not for the best reasons. It was the comedian’s first big stint, and as he himself admitted, he was excited about it. Though the seasoned standup comedian seemingly put his best foot forward at the gig, his jokes did not land very well.
The comedian did not shy away from taking a jab at the biggest of the celebrities and the best of the films. His most regretful joke was the one he made on Taylor Swift, targetting her presence at the NFL games. The pop sensation looked clearly unamused, while her fans and celebrity supporters were quick to scrutinize Koy for it. But the comedian has now claimed that he is a Swiftie himself!

The comedian seemed unfazed amid all the backlash he is receiving for his gig at the Golden Globes this year. While many have deemed his humor “inappropriate” and “misogynistic“, some others have also spoken up in his favor. Meanwhile, the comedian said he is ready to take up the gig again next year, just with a little more time to prepare.
He also admitted that the Taylor Swift joke that he is receiving the most backlash for, fell flat. Now in another revelation, while speaking to the Los Angeles Times, the 52-year-old comedian said he is a fan of Taylor Swift’s work and he had no intention of offending her through the joke.
“I didn’t understand the Taylor [Swift] tiff. What hurts the most is me just supporting Taylor, I support her, I love her work,” he said during an interview with the Los Angeles Times.
“What hurts the most is me just supporting Taylor, I support her, I love her work,” he said. “I got nieces that I bought tickets for. There’s no ill intent in that joke,” Koy explained.
Koy further specified that the statement was supposed to take a shot at the NFL and not her. “It’s like, the cool thing about the [Golden] Globes is we don’t need to do cutaways for ratings,” he explained.

Jo Koy’s Taylor Swift Joke That Landed Him In Trouble
The trouble for Koy started when he took a playful jab at Swift during the Golden Globes, saying, “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift.” The joke landed with a thud, prompting a quick, “Sorry about that,” from Koy. Swift looked unamused in the audience as she sipped her drink.
In a prior comment to Entertainment Tonight, Koy had said that he in fact finds the NFL cutaways of Swift at games as “cute“. Though he clearly tried to smooth things over repeatedly, fans were left fuming.
Swift, meanwhile, is not unaware of the scrutiny surrounding her NFL game appearances. She also addressed the issue during her 2023 Time Person of the Year profile. “There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is… I’m just there to support Travis,” she said.
“I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads,” she added.
Koy continues to defend his joke as a harmless one, and his latest quip is being a Swiftie. It is now up to Swift’s fanbase whether to give Koy a pass with his joke or continue holding it against him.
