Before ‘Echo‘, the name Alaqua Cox was not known to many, but now the actress is making history. The actress was born deaf and is an amputee with a prosthetic leg, but she defied all the odds and is no less than a real-life superhero.
Cox plays Maya Lopez, who first debuted in ‘Hawkeye‘ and then starred in ‘Echo‘. She is seen combatting with Hawkeye and Daredevil, defeating Kingpin’s army of goons. Unsurprisingly, Cox’s portrayal of the Echo has impressed the audience. But with all the admiration, her fears came true.

Alaqua Cox Eyeing Roles Beyond Playing The Bad Guy
Despite her challenges, Alaqua Cox aced her role, performed her stunts, and mastered martial arts. During a recent interview with Deadline, the actress was asked about her plans outside MCU. Cox replied, “Oh my gosh, I keep getting offered all these bad guy roles. And honestly, I want to try something different. I want to try maybe a comedy role or suspense movie. I would love to be able to play a role in a horror film. Those are my favorite kind of films. I loved watching them growing up.”
Cox had pictured a completely different future which did not include the entertainment industry in the first place. In an interview with Variety, the actress said that she dropped out of college, as she was clueless about her future goals. She took up odd jobs in factories, including working at Amazon and a nursing home. Her only plan was to make money, quit, and travel the world. However, her destiny took a huge leap as the star is now making headlines for her impactful performance in Marvel’s ‘Echo’.

Alaqua Cox Is Looking Forward To MCU Crossover With Scarlet Witch
Alaqua Cox wants to witness Maya Lopez and Wanda Maximoff share the screen in an MCU crossover. During a conversation with CinemaBlend, Cox was asked if there are any existing MCU characters she’d like to team up against in a potential crossover. The actress answered it saying, “The first person that comes to mind is WandaVision or Scarlet Witch. I’d love to see her.”
When asked about Maya’s future in the MCU following her Disney+ miniseries, Cox teased that she sees “Maya appearing in more Daredevil stuff for sure”, further adding, “That would be awesome to see that happen. So, fingers crossed.”
