Amber Heard Hires New Legal Team To Appeal In Johnny Depp Defamation Case. Know All About It

Amber Heard was kind of keeping a low profile ever since the defamation case with Johnny Depp ended in June. The jury in that trial ruled out that Heard’s op-ed on Depp’s abuse was false. Depp was given $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million as punitive damages from Heard. The punitive damage amount was later reduced.

But the story hasn’t ended yet as there’s a new twist in this saga. Recent reports suggest that Amber has hired a fresh legal team to appeal the Depp defamation case. This means that we might see a new trial. It seems as if this legal battle will continue for a long time, as neither party is ready to back down.

The Amber Heard-Johnny Depp saga doesn’t have an end in sight. According to a Business Insider report, the actress has changed her legal team. This is mainly to appeal the decision in the Johnny Depp defamation trial.

On Monday, the ‘Aquaman‘ star’s representatives announced the hiring of lawyers David L. Axelrod and Jay Ward Brown from Ballard Spahr law firm.

The two had successfully defended The New York Times earlier this year in a defamation case by the former governor of Alaska Sarah Palin.

Elaine Bredehoft, who represented Heard at the trial, has stepped down from her legal team. They said, “I have pledged to Amber and her appellate team my complete cooperation and assistance as they move forward on a path towards success.”

Earlier this month, more than 6,000 pages of previously sealed court records related to the defamation trial were made public. It was done over the course of the weekend.

The documents provide a new look into the legal strategy employed by both sides. It also had material that were not presented in court.

Amber’s legal team submitted to the judge, in unsealed pretrial court filings, that evidence of a variety of “irrelevant personal matters” should be removed from the defamation trial. The following things were asserted:

“Mr. Depp inappropriately seeks to introduce evidence of the following Irrelevant Personal Matters: (1) nude pictures of Amber Heard; (2) Amber Heard’s sister Whitney’s reality show video; (3) Whitney and Amber’s past romantic relationships; (4) Amber’s brief stint as an exotic dancer years before she met Mr. Depp and Mr. Depp attempting to frivolously and maliciously suggest or imply that Ms. Heard was at one time an escort.”
