Shooting for a role takes a huge deal of commitment, which is often overlooked after the film is delivered on the big screens. A lot goes into getting an actor to prepare for the role including tedious hours of make-up, uncomfortable costumes, and hours of dialogue rehearsals. Many actors including Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson have been through these frustrating processes just to deliver excellence for the audience.
Every single day, Dwayne Johnson had to spend more than three hours on the makeup chair for ‘Hercules’. Although all his commitment and hard work were quite visible on-screen, and off-screen Johnson struggled with make-up and getting on the entire ensemble.
Dwayne Johnson Was Astounded By The Origin Of His Fake Beard
It is no secret that actors spend a considerable amount of time and dedication to get the role right. From make-up to costumes, they have to go to extreme lengths for perfection. During the shooting for ‘Hercules’, Dwayne Johnson spent several hours in the make-up chair, which also included gluing his fake beard.
During an interview, Dwayne Johnson revealed a hilarious reality about his fake beard. As curiosity swept in, ‘The Baywatch’ actor asked his designer the origin of his fake beard. The Rock said, “The beard hair, I’ve got to mention this, this is crazy. The beard wasn’t lace so it had to be put on strips cut in tri, quarter inch wide, piece-by-piece.”
Dwayne continued, “So I asked my Italian designer, ‘Matteo what is this?’ And he goes, ‘Oh, it’s the hair from a yak’. It’s very expensive and very fine hair and I said, ‘Yak?’ And he says, ‘Yes, yak’. And he’s putting it on my face like this [rubs the area around his mouth] and I say, ‘What part?’ And he goes, The testicles.”

What Caused ‘Hercules’ To Lose Millions?
Dwayne Johnson sustained an injury at WrestleMania. The team went into an instant panic because Hercules’s shoot had to be delayed due to injuries and the production of the film had begun. Johnson revealed to Toronto Sun, “Because it was such a big movie, the crew had been there for four to six months already, prepping, building these massive sets”.
The actor further said, “And in the entertainment business, if you push a project of that magnitude, the likelihood of it coming back with the same cinematographer, the same director, same players, is slim to none. So I wanted to keep everything intact. I called Brett Ratner and said, ‘I’m walking with a limp, let’s see where I am in six weeks.'”
Due to the delay caused by The Rock’s injury, ‘Hercules’ lost millions. The actor recalled, “I called MGM and they had to push the movie by two weeks, which was a million dollars a week”.
