Betty White was a beloved American actress who lived a long happy life, and that life was devoted to the entertainment industry. Her career spanned over eighty years. Betty remains one of the longest-working television entertainers. She even had luck with films. It was therefore a sad day when fans had to say goodbye to the television personality on 31 December 2021.
Betty Marion White was born on 17 January 1922 in Oak Park, Illinois. She came of Danish and Greek descent. Betty started working as a model after graduating high school. Soon, she landed her first dating gig at the Bliss Hayden Little Theatre. But in 1939, World War II broke out and she participated in wartime services.

However, the couple divorced in the same year as Dick wanted a simpler life and Betty envisioned herself as a career girl. In 1947, Betty again married a talent agent, Lane Allen. But the marriage lasted for two years. Lane wanted to start a family and Betty didn’t.
It was years before Betty married again. She and television personality Allen Ludden tied the knot in 1963. Ludden met Betty when she was hosting the longtime game show ‘Password’. Allen was a celebrity guest on the show. And it has been reported that Ludden proposed at least twice before White finally said yes. Both were together till death parted them on 9 June 1981. Ludden succumbed to stomach cancer. Betty did not have any children of her own but was the stepmother to Allen Ludden’s three children.

Achievements And Accolades
Betty White has been nominated for the Primetime Emmy Awards numerous times and has won five of them. Two of them were for ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show‘ and one for ‘The Golden Girls’. She has moreover won two Daytime Emmy Awards too. For her role as Rose in ‘The Golden Girls’ she has been nominated for the Golden Globes four times. White has also been the recipient of a Grammy Award for ‘If You Ask Me (And of Course You Won’t)‘.
In 1995, Betty’s star was installed on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, a prestigious position for selected personalities. Other than these, Betty had dozens of nominations and wins. For instance, the People’s Choice Awards, MTV Awards, and Britannia Awards.

Betty White Philanthropy And Activism
Betty White endeared animals and was a rigorous activist for their welfare. She worked with various organizations like Los Angeles Zoo Commission, The Morris Animal Foundation, African Wildlife Foundation, and Actors and Others for Animals to advocate her views. According to Los Angeles Zoo, she donated almost $100,000 to them after hosting the event ‘History for Film’. Besides this, she was an avid dog lover and parent.
Besides the above, Betty was an early advocate for racial equality and LGBT rights. She refused to fire the black tap dancer on her ‘The Betty White Show’. She stated that she would not fire a black man and that people should “live with it”. For the LGBT family, she said in an interview with Parade, “If a couple has been together all that time – and there are gay relationships that are more solid than some heterosexual ones – I think it’s fine if they want to get married. I don’t know how people can get so anti-something. Mind your own business, take care of your affairs, and don’t worry about other people so much.”

Betty White’s House
In 1987, Betty White and her husband Allen Ludden bought an underdeveloped property in California. They took to build the place in a comfortable four-bedroom house with fantastic views of the ocean. Unfortunately, Ludden died before he could live in the house with his wife. And White spent the rest of her days in the California house.
Betty also owned a house in Los Angeles’ Brentwood neighborhood. Both of these properties were listed and sold off by White’s heirs. The California home was sold for $8 million while the LA estate brought $10.7 million. In fact, after Betty’s death, her dog Pontiac inherited $5 million from her owner and became one of the top ten richest pets in the world.

Betty White Death And Legacy
On 25 December 2021, Betty White suffered a stroke and she passed away in her sleep on 31 December 2021. The United States of America and many others grieved the celebrity’s demise. The actress passed away two weeks before she turned hundred.
Many organizations came forward to pay their tributes to the deceased. Among them were American Women’s Voluntary Services, Martin Luther King Jr. Center, political commentators, celebrities, and more. Her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was decorated with flowers upon her news of death.
