Bridgit Mendler is breaking stereotypes typically attracted to women in Hollywood in the most genius way ever. Known for her role in Disney’s ‘Good Luck Charlie’, Mendler recently achieved an exceptional feat by launching a first-of-its-kind space startup of her own after getting a PhD and a Law degree from prestigious universities like MIT and Harvard Law School.
While she had already left the world in awe with her exceptional achievement, the actress is adding one more remarkable title to her repertoire along with that of a CEO — a mother. Hours after she announced the launch of her startup Northwood Space, the 31-year-old singer and actress revealed that she adopted a child about a year ago.
“Being A Parent Is The Biggest Gift”: Bridgit Mendler Reveals She Is Mother To An Adopted Boy
Bridgit Mendler was a popular face on Disney once, and is now scaling the distance to actual stars with her space startup. Taking to X, the star made another announcement hours after making the announcement about her startup, Northwood Space. Mendler said she discreetly adopted her first child in 2022.
Posting a heartwarming photo of her and her 4-year-old son at the beach, Mendler wrote, “The other news I wanted to share is I’m a mama to a sweet 4yo boy. Started fostering in 2021 adopted near Christmas of 2022. I’m so lucky — being a parent is the biggest gift and most defining experience there is.”
While Mendler has so far kept details about her little one under wraps, she had posted a picture of the toddler playing in the snow in January 2022. The actress is married to Griffin Cleverly since 2019, and has embraced motherhood with gratitude and joy.
In her professional life, Mendler is making waves as the co-founder and CEO of Northwood Space, a startup focused on “building a data highway between earth and space.” The company aims to expand access to space by designing shared ground infrastructure, and has already secured an impressive $6.3 million in funding from high-profile investors.

Mendler Shares Her Brainchild Start-Up Northwood Space With Husband Griffin Cleverly
Mendler explained that the concept for Northwood Space emerged during the COVID-19 lockdown while she was in New Hampshire with her family. In an interview with CNBC, she shared, “While everybody else was making their sourdough starters, we were building antennas out of random crap we could find at Home Depot … and receiving data from [National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration] satellites.”
“For me, why the ground-side matters is because it actually is about bringing the impacts of space home to people,” she added. The star further explained that the “actual exercise of sending data to and from space” is still quite “difficult” despite the recent advancements in the exploration of space — which is where her company comes into play.
Stepping away from the entertainment spotlight after her Disney days, Mendler pursued a law degree at Harvard and earned a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her husband Griffin Cleverly serves as Northwood Space’s chief technology officer, and has been her partner not only in marriage but also in the journey of building this innovative startup.
